  • Afternoon here already. I did drop in earlier, honest, but got interrupted by Mr Snoop, who has taken the car for its MOT. Fingers crossed...

Back to warm weather again. Bit irritating as I have to have two sets of clothes on the go: one lot for in the morning when I get up, as it's chilly; another lot to change into later in the day, when it's hot.

Bit of a fiddly-faddly kind of day today. Lots of things I could and should do, but nothing I absolutely have to do. At least not for today. Better pick something, though, and get it out the way.

Plenty of pleasure to be had going through boxes of mementos, AP, even if tinged with sadness. Pocket watches are a thing of beauty. Hope you find someone who can repair one for you.

Have a good one, guys. Catch you later.

    • Afternoon all, after a 10 mile bike ride to the chemists I have cut all the grass, now planning on a lay down and inspect the inside of my eye lids lol.

      • Very sunny still and we're having hash and herby dumplings for dinner! I've collected another bucket of apples and since a colleague at work has said they taste like apples should, I appreciate them more even though I'm out of ideas to preserve them Family don't see that the hoovering needs doing Jay they come to see you. Relax and enjoy. Trout sounds better than hash Snadge, but it does smell good in here. Have a lovely evening All

On the chillyside this morning, although the sun is out, door shut sharpish after I let Mollycat out.
Sposed to warm up to 20C later - sure hope so, more gardening today for me, plus allotment committee meeting later.

            • Cool and wet here, was 10 degrees in the greenhouse last night and it's only 12 now, tommies looking a bit sorry for themselves, season is definitely winding down now, most leaves falling from the apple trees revealing a shocking crop of fruit. Scab has been so bad the fruits are split, I doubt we will get one apple, all 3 trees will be removed and will be on the village bonfire.

              • Morning, FF.

Car passed its MOT, thank goodness.

Earthworks started yesterday. But I have to say there's nothing like building work to cause trouble at mill. Cats don't like it either, and the dogs just want to attack the JCB, so they have to be kept in and are miserable. Quite amazing to see what used to go into constructing stone terrace walls. I knew they used to build the wall and then backfill with soil. But this particular wall has been partly backfilled with rounded rocks too, so effectively there's a low wall behind the wall. The original stone wall we could see was made of absolutely massive stones. I hope the new concrete blocks are up to the job...

Have a good day, everyone. Catch you later.

                  • Hi Snoop,
if they're anything like the Greek walls, the rocks behind were there to drain water away from behind the wall, so it wasn't pushed over in a wet season.
Good luck with the new one

I know what you mean lol, 16 years we've had the trees, I hated using the chemical spray, but now it's banned(rightly so) I will try more disease resistant trees in a different part of the garden. First job is to removes as much as is possible of the old trees and leaves, I will probably wait until the spring to start the new trees and get pot grown ones.

Very interesting. Not sure whether to mention this to Mr Snoop. My interventions yesterday didn't go down too well...

LD we've had our winter quilt on for a few weeks now not had heating on yet though it won't be long till it needed I think. It soon drops cool at around 6pm so I've started closing the GH at night it was 6c last night in there.

                            • evening all, in fact it's nearly tomorrow.

Been a pretty miserable day here today with a horrible misty drizzle. I lifted my show tatties ready to wash for the last show of the season on Sunday. Reasonably happy with what I've got but of course it depends a lot on what other folks have got too

Weather supposed to be better tomorrow although coldish overnight.

No Jay and no Rary today? Hope both are ok. The place seems empty without them especially with Nicos on hols.
