Again good evening was going to go out to the greenhouse but rather blustery so just browsing the Vine instead and need to ask a question, today I started removing a clump of bamboo which has been in the garden for about twenty years, once it is either cut down or dug out I will be putting a small raised bed in the area, as I will be spreading out some weed suppression fabric and placing the box on top of that, so the question is do I need to dig out the bamboo root or would cutting it down to ground level be enough, and LD looked on b&q but couldn't find root riots but thanks for the suggestion anywayit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Whatever it is, is probably best to dig out as much as you can as it can be very pushy!!

Plus I have always maintained that we should listen to our elders, and lets face it you are a lot older than the rest of us

Feeling very sorry for myself: had some wine last night (two smallish glasses, honest), the first this month. Wasn't expecting to wake up feeling as rough as I do.
Not much other news. Still very cold and due to get colder. Woke up with a cat snuggled up against my head and another one on my shoulder. Come to think of it, maybe they're responsible for my neck and headache.
Finalised my seed order last night. Managed to resist yet another packet of carrot seed. I was looking at a piece yesterday about growing food enough to feed a family. They suggested a maximum of 9 kg of carrots per person for the year. There are two of us and I reckon we get through at least a kilo a week. Don't think we can be self-sufficient in carrots! That said, I'm growing quite a lot (if they germinate...).
Have a great day, everyone.

Good morning all.
Bright sunshine here but freezing cold.
Going grocery shopping shortly and then I am in for the day.
Going to make Irish stew, hopefully enough to last two days.
Not much else happening.
Stay safe and warm all.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

good afternoon all, another reasonable day, thats not many carrots per person, even sharing the plate with other veg,we been for our flue jabs, whilst out called wilko's,yup, first early and a main crop spudz, they are only £1.50 per 2 kilogram bag, onion sets, white dahlia, aqulegia, white and a barlow black, they look very different to my other ones,am thinking of planting them in situ, then put a black pot over, and hope it gives them some protection,i also have a roll of old hession to put over the top,by ek it does stink,my thinking is,i get em in out the way, they will settle better, and i know where to find them in a few weeks time.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Good afternoon, there was some snow when we got up this morning but after one or two showers it's all gone though there is still a fair amount on the hills, we were down at our friend's today again OH and her sat blethering while I did some work for her, once home our daughter phoned and the part of the conversation that I heard was, "no you Dad and I were up this morning and took the dog out a walk" I remember being out with the dog and it was freezing, but don't remember OH being with me, then it's "we were down at your aunt Megs and put a TV up on a stand for her" again I don't remember any of the two of them helping other than to tell me it wasn't level, I think I must be suffering from old-timers, and just looking out it's a clear blue sky so think it will be a cold night tonight, take care if its frosty or snowing, keep warm and whatever the weather conditions keep safeit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Good evening all
I had a very productive day.
Spent most of it cooking meals for the freezer.
My grandson is being christened at the end of next month.
Between my holidays and Christmas I have gained a few pounds.
The daily mail were running a supplement with recipes for the 5:2 diet so I decided to give it a try.
Will be interested to see how well it works.

Evening all. No new snow yet but by eck it is flemmin cold. Shopping day in Aberdeen for elderly folks today again so most of the day written orf.
Stuck a fresh bag of B&Q compost into the heated greenhouse to heat up a bit. Will do a bit of compost mixing tomorrow ready for some more potting up. This cold spell couldn't have been timed worse. I wanted to get some stuff moved into the unheated greenhouse but It might as well be a freezer at the moment
