    D. Hello, how are you? Looking forward to spring and getting out in the garden again?
VC. Fine thanks, Shall I tell you what's on my bedroom windowsill?

(D looks a bit lost for words)

VC. Maybe, I wont 'cos you'll think I'm nuts, ah well, its tomato, cucumber and courgette seedlings.

(D looks relieved and asks if I've grown asparagus)

.........then we get on to my mouth.

He's the first dentist I've been able to talk to - and he lets me skip out of the surgery by telling me there's no work necessary.

    • Again good evening was going to go out to the greenhouse but rather blustery so just browsing the Vine instead and need to ask a question, today I started removing a clump of bamboo which has been in the garden for about twenty years, once it is either cut down or dug out I will be putting a small raised bed in the area, as I will be spreading out some weed suppression fabric and placing the box on top of that, so the question is do I need to dig out the bamboo root or would cutting it down to ground level be enough, and LD looked on b&q but couldn't find root riots but thanks for the suggestion anyway

      • Is it a spreading, invasive bamboo, rary?
Whatever it is, is probably best to dig out as much as you can as it can be very pushy!!

No VC not invasive at all perhaps increased about five times its size in twenty odd years, but want to make a bed for strawberries (not going to put them with the rasps) and salad veg closer to the house, and as it is in the area I want for this it has to go, but it is has been a great plant and had provided a number of canes over the years, but needs must, and believe it or not I will take your advice and remove the roots, so thank you

            • Feeling very sorry for myself: had some wine last night (two smallish glasses, honest), the first this month. Wasn't expecting to wake up feeling as rough as I do.

Not much other news. Still very cold and due to get colder. Woke up with a cat snuggled up against my head and another one on my shoulder. Come to think of it, maybe they're responsible for my neck and headache.

Finalised my seed order last night. Managed to resist yet another packet of carrot seed. I was looking at a piece yesterday about growing food enough to feed a family. They suggested a maximum of 9 kg of carrots per person for the year. There are two of us and I reckon we get through at least a kilo a week. Don't think we can be self-sufficient in carrots! That said, I'm growing quite a lot (if they germinate...).

              Have a great day, everyone.

Not much going on for me today, chores and card making.
                Washing already done
Going to attempt to make some spicy meatballs later on as well.
                Have a lovely day folks

                • We had torrential rain as we went to bed last night, woke up to a fab sunrise with clear blue skies and a hard frost, you would never have known about the rain. Fair bit of snow on the hills though.

                  • Good morning all.
Bright sunshine here but freezing cold.
Going grocery shopping shortly and then I am in for the day.
Going to make Irish stew, hopefully enough to last two days.
                    Not much else happening.
                    Stay safe and warm all.

                    • Mornings!

It's bright and sunny and not as cold as yesterday. Washing is in the machine so perhaps it can go on the line. I hate drying indoors.
Some seed swaps just arrived so my table is covered with packets atm lol so guess I'll be garden/plot planning today...
                      Have a good'un

                        • Good afternoon, there was some snow when we got up this morning but after one or two showers it's all gone though there is still a fair amount on the hills, we were down at our friend's today again OH and her sat blethering while I did some work for her, once home our daughter phoned and the part of the conversation that I heard was, "no you Dad and I were up this morning and took the dog out a walk" I remember being out with the dog and it was freezing, but don't remember OH being with me, then it's "we were down at your aunt Megs and put a TV up on a stand for her" again I don't remember any of the two of them helping other than to tell me it wasn't level, I think I must be suffering from old-timers, and just looking out it's a clear blue sky so think it will be a cold night tonight, take care if its frosty or snowing, keep warm and whatever the weather conditions keep safe

                            • Good evening all
I had a very productive day.
Spent most of it cooking meals for the freezer.
My grandson is being christened at the end of next month.
Between my holidays and Christmas I have gained a few pounds.
The daily mail were running a supplement with recipes for the 5:2 diet so I decided to give it a try.
Will be interested to see how well it works.

                              • Evening all. No new snow yet but by eck it is flemmin cold. Shopping day in Aberdeen for elderly folks today again so most of the day written orf.

Stuck a fresh bag of B&Q compost into the heated greenhouse to heat up a bit. Will do a bit of compost mixing tomorrow ready for some more potting up. This cold spell couldn't have been timed worse. I wanted to get some stuff moved into the unheated greenhouse but It might as well be a freezer at the moment
