Evening All!
I went yellow sticker shopping this afternoon and met a man who matched the stickers!! He was wearing an enormous, bright yellow, cycling cape. Whenever he spoke, he waved his arms around and flapped his wings so much I thought he was going to take off. Either that or knock everything off the shelves. Fortunately for me, he was very visible in his yellow outfit, so I was able to nip down other aisles when I saw him coming and hide.
He seems a kind soul really, feeds 17 feral cats; went to 2 chapel services this morning as their congregations are so small (only 6 in one) that they're in danger of closing and he leaves a Werther's sweet in the donations plate in charity shops (not the church collecting plate!).
Its funny what people tell you when they're out shopping. I sometimes wonder why they tell me these things.
Does anyone else have these odd conversations with strangers?
Anyway, its been blowing a gale here, hope it calms down before I go to bed. I'm convinced that one night the chimney stack will blow down and land on me in bed. Then I spend my waking hours moving across the bed, trying to decide where the safest spot is to sleep. Really, I should move the bed to the furthest corner away from the outside wall and go back to sleep.
^^^ don't start getting me worried about chimney stacks!
I am about 6 feet away from one and 10 feet away from a second. Both are over 300 years old and in these winds the roof timbers are creaking like an old wooden ship
It's nights like this I'm glad I don't have a greenhouse or polytunnel...the rest of the time I'm quite envious!
I'm just hoping a branch/tree doesn't fall on our cars...We 'd be lost without transport!
Hope everyone gets away with very little damage....

Morning all
It’s bright outside at the moment with the threat of sun for the rest of the day.
So VC, if you’re looking* for it, I’ve got it today.
I think I’ve seen off the worst of this cold, so that’s good
Have a lovely day folks
Good morning, it looks as if it's been raining all night but no high winds, I hope those that have had them are ok, and Nicos I have lost several greenhouses to high winds over the years that's why I stay in the house when we have them, was looking for a dry morning so that I could get the grass cut, enjoy your day whatever the weather
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers

Older houses do make a fair bit of noise don't they, it made a difference when we had the front two chimney stacks removed but we still have the back two that are in use. Wind really howls in those at times.

Mornings!
The wind from Freya wasn't as bad as expecting, biggest gust here was 30mph - but the rain woke me up, it was sooo heavy! Good job it didn't last any longer as the yard was flooded nearly up to the door seal
Looks a bit brighter out this morning, but a bit colder than yesterday, so indoor jobs again for today.
Good morning g all.
We had no storm but a good dollop on snow.
However it's gone now and the ground is dry.
Just 3 degs this morning g so considerably cooler than last week,
Nothing planned for today but the ironing is calling me.
Glad I dont live in an old house, all the creaking would leave me very nervous.
Stay safe all and have a good day.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
Mornin n'alln'all
Talk about calm after the storm!
Just a few branches down, but not much more damage as far as I can see thank goodness.
Glad we managed to get the lawns cut the other day , it would have been impossible after all this rain.
Mostly domestics for me for the next few days to catch up on what I ignored whilst sewing!
Actually, I have 3 chimneys and a fourth we are intending to rebuild (which the previous owner dismantled )!!!
Crumb's, rary. I thought I was being quite brave, but you really are living dangerously saying that.
And LD, there shouldn't be too much raking. The gravel will slide out the back of the lorry as it drives along. That's the idea anyway. Last time we had a delivery, the driver just stopped for some unknown reason and about five tonnes all landed in a heap in the middle of the driver (all our vehicles the wrong side of the pile). Got a JCB and a tractor to spread it about and the company gave us the gravel for free. Could have been worse!
Edited to add: the lorry's just been and gone. A little bit of raking at the bottom, but not much at all. In fact, it's a small pile where it suits us, so perfect.
