  • good evening, its been a cold wet day today, had to go up to our daughters for 8 this morning, and our oldest grandson was in bed ill, had to leave him for a short time as i was taking the younger ones to school, once back in was sitting reading when granddaughter phoned to say she was coming home from work as she was ill, so as she was in i collected OH so that we could nip to the shops for some messages as we had been away for the weekend and needed milk, bread etc. and OH thinks its a waste of time me going by myself as all i get is whats on the message line once back home i made the tea then was out in the garden once the rain went off, i have slipped up by telling OH that there is a group coming to the garden in August, and all i get now is "that garden better be tidy for them visiting" bad mistake i should have waited till the week before, its going to be a long 3 months, ah well enjoy yourselves and keep a smile handy, remember that glum young man you pass could be me Goodnight

    • Late post today. I've had a wonderful birthday/bank holiday weekend. It was my birthday on Friday and my d-i-l's yesterday so my son did a joint birthday thingy on Saturday. We had a Chinese meal. I don't get them any more as to have enough dishes to be worth it I would be eating it for a week.

On the Saturday I got to look round their balcony. DIL likes growing things but they don't have a garden. I noticed that they had a bracket for a hanging basket so I gave her one from Ald1 together with the plants and compost to go with it. I was amazed at how pleased she was and definitely not a polite thankyou. So I got something right.

I also bought quite a lot of stuff for me too. Oh well. I'm busy for a day or two as I was re-elected for the Town Council and the first meeting is tomorrow. It will calm down after that.

        • Morning n'alln'all
No idea why I have woken up so early
At least Hibou gets to go out and play earlier!

We had a great time yesterday. Many thanks for all the kind wishes!
We eventually found the two 6,000 year old polishing stones
(Absolutely appallingly badly signposted. But that seems typical in France of anything older than medieval.)
As expected, they were located next to a stream where the water and mud would have been used as an abrasive and lubricant to slowly sand down other stones to make tools.
          One was 1m x2m and the other was 2m x 3m.
You could just imagine a group of guys standing round their 'workbench' making or repairing their stone tools....gossiping away , just like blokes do

Back to modern day reality....domestic chores for me!
          Hopefully time for some gardening
          Kettle's on -help yourselves.

Have a great day peeps. See ya later...

          • Morning All

Woke up so thought I may as well get up. A mild 11° and raining, not that I am complaining, the ground definitely needed it.

Hope you have a happy Wednesday

Tis very wet and sploshy here. Looks like an indoor day for me.
My friend has invited a group of 14 friends over for a 5day weekend -expecting about half could make it.
Turns out all of them have accepted!!!!!
So I will make her a large fruit cake today to help out.
The house is going to smell amazing but not easy whilst I'm dieting!!!

              • Mornings!
Same here GL, that gentle drizzle that soaks you just wandering the 25ft to the greenhouse, and it looks set for the day. We really need it so I'm not really complaining the forecast was for a milder night so left all the tenders (except a few peppers) in the greenhouse and got away with it - the min was 9C.
One last van-load of branches still to go to the tip, most of the trunk going to neighbours with woodburners - don't suppose anything will move in the rain though.. So much more light and I can see lots more sky even if it's grey today. It's made a lot of difference to the light levels indoors as well, I should have had it taken down years ago, really.
                More physio this afternoon *sigh*

                Have a good'un

Rain here as well for the rest of the day, I've got some potting on to do but that's it for gardening.
I'd best get those toms out of the kitchen and back into the GH before I start baking.

                    • Sounds like you had a lovely day, Janie. You too, Nicos, and with more to come. I once found an old whetstone on our land while digging and weeding. It meant a lot to me to think of the connection between me and whoever had used it in the same field. Sadly, it got lent, along with other sharpening instruments, to a man working down the valley. He brought everything back but the whetstone and Mr Snoop didn't notice and didn't want to ask when I noticed it was missing. It was a lovely, natural stone, ground down where it had been used.

Not much happening here today. Mr Snoop out at the vet's with the dog who has to be castrated. Never had that done to a dog. Cats seem to take it in their stride. The dog is seven. Anyone with any experience of having a dog in the prime of his life neutered?

Grey, cloudy and attempting to drizzle here. So will be indoors. Just as well, as paid work calls.

                      Have a good day, everyone.
