  • Good afternoon!
Went out this morning with my first cuppa, and apart from making frequent refills, I haven't been inside since

Keeps coming over black and threatening rain, but so far it's all gone over. Invited to BBQ next door, so bound to ran isn't it?

Have a good'un what's left of it anyway!

The job is going well. I am enjoying it, the staff are friendly who I work with.

        • Good evening all.
Didnt get any gardening done today.
Big competition day at the pitch and putt.
          Only just got home.
No rain here but the garden could do with it.
Have a good evening g all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

          • Good evening, raining here today, started about ten o clock and has been on and off all day till six and since then raining quite heavy, was out this morning as OH wanted some shopping then when back home I planted up some pots and made up a shelf for holding some of the baskets to harden them off, now sitting in the conservatory and have been sitting watching the birds come into the feeder and there were a couple of young starlings in at it, I know they were considered a bit of a pest but those two are the first young ones I have seen for several years, well I am now going to watch some of Chelsea soenjoy your garden over the rest of the weekend and smile. Goodnight

            • Happy Saturday everyone. I try not to post on here too often as you'll accuse me of trying to raise my post count.
I want to tell you a little story about a letter I received today. It wasn't addressed to me by name, was hand delivered and only had the house number and road on the envelope.
It was from a man who was tracing his family tree and had been given my address as the last known address for his father's brother J and his wife C.
I rang the man and asked how I could help him. Apparently he had sat outside my house last night for half an hour, trying to pluck up the courage to come to see me.
He'd spoken to a neighbour who told him that C was living here and he thought that I might be his long lost Aunt C. Amazing that we should have the same christian name, even down to the extra E!
Don't tell rary, but this Aunt C would be in her 90s and, despite the rumours, I'm not that old.
I have heard of his family though, so will speak to some of the neighbours who may remember them.
Apart from that, my day has been unremarkable but sunny.

              • ^Good story, VC. And good of you to phone him. As for accusations of upping your post count, that seems unlikely. What's a few more between friends?

As for here, the clouds and sun are battling it out but I think the clouds will win. The wind is blowing more and more in.

Off to vote a bit later on. It's quite a palaver here, with little booths where you pick up a pre-printed list of the party of your choice and put it in an envelope. Then you stand in a queue, then hand in your ID, wait while your name is read out repeatedly and ticked off separate lists, and then post your envelope into a transparent container. Just to be sure that it really is you that's voting and that everyone knows and agrees that you have voted. I'll be voting in two elections today. Fortunately, you deal with both envelopes at once.

Then it's back to paid work. Mr Snoop meanwhile will be bunging in a few more posts for my veg patch fence. Did a bit of raking yesterday. The soil is looking a lot better for a load of muck already. Give it a few more years...

                Have a nice day, everyone.

Are you absolutely sure its not you remember (if you can) that at your age, or so I have been told, the memory can play tricks on you, or possibly she was an old class mate of yours, and that's why you think you have heard of them

                        • Funny old day - rain then sun and now quite windy but dry. My son came for the full English and went home with some warm cheese scones. I've been pottering around all day and now I'm bored. I'm not used to being able to do nothing, must try harder

                          • It's been a funny sort of day, mostly overcast but hot and humid, not a drop of rain, despite black skies now and again. I had to water everything on the plot.
Planted out some Harlequin sunflowers, I'm looking forward to these flowering, only ever grown white or yellow ones

Only took a week for them to come up, happy days

                              • Morning, all. Hope you had a great trip, NS.

Very overcast at the moment but no rain forecast.

Busy paid work day today (and tomorrow and the day after). Am thinking of downing tools next week. Will have to see. Vast numbers of guests the weekend after, and could usefully do with preparing food and the like in advance. Could be as many as 14 of us. We don't even have that many knives and forks... Doesn't bear thinking about. At least, not this week.

                                Have a great day, everyone.
