  • Well, that was a one step forward two steps back kind of day. Hand pollinated six squash of assorted varieties today, but every flower filled with water in the rain. And my top five pepper plants slid over in the wind. I've hauled them upright again, but doubt they'll be the same. Looks like we'll be eating a lot of green rather than red peppers. Never the same picked and ripened off the plant. Ah well, always next year (meaning, get rebar supports in before the plants).

More positively, yellow climbing beans looking a bit ridiculously heavy with beans. Goodness only knows what I'm going to do with them all.

Off shopping tomorrow, so will probably drop in later rather than in the morning. Catch you later, guys.

Brrrr...there's a nip in the air!
Actually considering changing over to the winter duvet!

Going to make some 'me time' today and take myself off swimming as part of my diet regime.
I've not had a chance to use my swimming pass as much as I'd hoped, so I need to get in a few swims before it expires.
Bit of Mrs Mop....then a quick shop for basic foodstuffs first.
        See ya later!

        • Good morning all,
          Cool and dull this morning.
Mopping and shopping for me this morning al well.
Baby minding this afternoon and daughter and granddaughter calling in as well.
Busy day today so no time for the garden.
          Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

            • Good afternoon started dull but dry this morning but rain on now, thankfully we had it dry last night as I had a number of visitors to the garden and whereas I thought the garden was poor they thought it looked good, they all thought my baskets which were filled with begonias, were very good and to be honest once you plant the begonias all you have to do is water occasionally and feed once a week or so as they are self cleaning in other words you don't need to deadhead, most of my lilies including my daylilies were finished the sweetpeas are running to seed though they still give a splash of colour the salvias were fine but the lupins were giving up the ghost in the veg beds my cabbages were about finished but the kale is fine the carrots have good foliage but not very big carrots, beetroots are great the celery looks ok but not very big the kohlrabi well I am still waiting for that to form the onions are a reasonable size and have been loosened in the ground and once i have time and it is dry I will move them into the greenhouse to dry the garlic which has been dried and now hanging up look ok the courggetts would be fine if you could eat the leaves, the trombos lets say is an other great mass of foliage with very little fruits and talking of fruits my thornless brambles looks like its going to give a good crop but the fruits are all bunched at the top which is over 6ft. up so wondering how i will be able to send OH out to pick them, most of the apple trees are showing quite a bit of fruit though one has nothing on it so will need to see how it does next year, the greenhouse would have been fine if they had came before my youngest grandson decided to pick all my red tomatoes as it was there were only about 8 red toms, after looking at the garden they had some snacks and refreshments around a fire which helped them go away at the end of the evening in a good mood
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

              • I suppose it's still good afternoon

Was quite chilly this morning so decided on domestics this morning, kitchen and bathroom now off the list. Trashco delivery at 2pm (mostly cake baking/decorating supplies), so now all packed away in a tidy kitchen

I've been looking at the brochures this afternoon, trying to decide which bulbs I need to order - I'd love them all though!

Have a good evening, whatever you're up to ..

                • evening all, I spent another day at the plot weeding and tidying up. I now have a monstrous pile of weeds but that will shring away as it composts down. It's really satisfying seeing the ground black again somehow. Planning now for overwintering crops and I;ll be buying Shakespear onion sets again. The crop I've had from them has been amazing.

                  • Ap, I've grown Piko Bello (spring planting onion sets) this year and they've been my best ever. 45 decent size onions from a pack of 50 and no damage whatsoever.
They're my "must grow" for next year.

                    • Sounds like you had a lovely time, Rary. Glad everyone appreciated your efforts.

Shopping and lunch out for us today. We went to the big shops too, about 50 km away. So quite exciting. The best bit was the nursery, where I stocked up on plug plants, so that will keep me busy for the next day or so.

Wildlife night here: sizeable owl having a squawky kind of gurgle to itself in a tree right by the door. And then a tarantula heading into the kitchen. Which I'm afraid got dispatched, as it's not the kind of thing you want to find in among the teabags, for example, first thing of a morning. It's been a bit cold these last couple of nights, which is bringing creatures into the house. Fortunately no rats the size of the ones in a photo taken by Scarlet in post 5 on this thread: https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...er_100042.html

Sleep tight, guys. See you in the morning.

After a very chill and damp night it's looking glorious out there!
With any luck I'll manage to crack on with gardening and outdoor pottering today. Perfek.
I managed a quick swim yesterday and feel so much better for it both physically and mentally.

I've noticed quite a few spiders heading into the house too....thank goodness we don't get tarantulas here!....just the occasional huuuge Norwegian rats from time to time though!

Love the campfire/firepit rary....many happy memories for life for your little'uns.
                          Kettle on ....help yourselves peeps!

                          • Mornings!
In here for my first cuppa today as at 14C it's still to cool to sit in the greenhouse yet, now the sun is lower it doesn't reach there so early Went down to 8C last night so there's a heavy dew. Hope to cut grass later today, though.
The border I cleared a few weeks ago is full of weeds already, after all the rain - good job the plants I bought are still in pots, so I can give it a quick whizz over, before they go in this weekend. The forecast is looking good for that

                            Have a good'un

                            • Busy day ahead: got to get beds in order for plug plants to go in this evening, when it's a bit cooler. Plus got to get some barrels in position and water up from the well to water the new arrivals.

Not much else of note on the cards. But better get a move on.

                              Have a great day, everyone.

                              • Morning everyone, lovely sunny start to the day.
Couple of days off work for a much needed rest. Got a touch of sciatica going on, ouch.
Still picking runner beans, they have had a second wind, which is lovely
Flowers are winding down a bit, but still putting on a good show
                                Have a good day folkd
