  • Mornings!
Cool, calm and cloudy this morning, we're supposed to get some sunshine later - fingers crossed for that.

I've got 2 birthday cakes to make, so need to start making some decorations for them. Flowers for a girly cake for a friend's party on Saturday, easy peasy - but knobs and buttons for an xbox controller cake for my grandson's birthday on Wednesday? who knows how that'll work out Haha!

    Have a good'un

    • Mornin n'alln'all

Still loads and loads of sploshy stuff going on here-for those of you with frosts and bright sunshine..ta muchly for sending your rain over here!

Was out most of yesterday. Managed to buy loads of DIY stuff-including the wooden flooring which( yippppeee!) they will store until March for us. That takes the pressure off a tad as we're going to insulate the largest wall with hemp and lime which takes weeks/ months to dry so the longer the better before the two come in contact!

Got friends coming over this evening for a Halloween nosh up....not got time to carve a pumpkin so I'll draw some faces on clementines and oranges instead
      Anyone else got anything planned?

We're off to the Uk again in 3weeks to sprinkle my MIL's ashes on a hillside she loved to visit. So-guess who spent most of Tuesday afternoon/evening baking cakes to freeze and take over for the family?
Thought I'd fiddle around with a simple fruitcake recipe and add various different flavours... orange...mango and coconut...calvados and cinnamon...crystallised ginger. Then Scarlet's rich chocolate cake.( might make a couple of those so there is more to share!!!!) if anyone hasn't given it a go , you really should try it! (Just try and ignore the volume of sugar, butter and chocolate involved!)

More sewing for me this morning ...enjoy your day/evening peeps...see ya later!

There are fisheries around here which fish all year also. They must be stocked with triploid fish which have been irradiated to stop them going gravid. The brown trout do spawn in our waters. I have caught lots of juvenile browns throughout the season (carefully returned) which is a good sign of water purity. They spawn in the feeding streams leading to the reservoirs.

        • Good morning all and it's another beautiful morning.
We have been forecasted for a mini heatwave over the weekend.
Plenty of long walks on the beach. Have a good day all whatever you're doing..

Nicos, you seem to live such a busy life.
I would the cake recipes if you ever get the time to post them.

          • Sorry for turning up so late today. Been a humming-and-hahhing kind of morning, with not much useful work of any kind done.

Hope this afternoon improves. Weather isn't helping my mood, as we've thick grey clouds overhead.

Catch you later. Have a good one meanwhile.

              • Nicos, it's nice to see the recipes but I think I would need to taste them first before I tried baking them, so if I send you my address could you forward 4 or 5 cakes for me to sample

                    • Evening all,

been a lovely day here if a tad chilly . Had a bit of this bit of that day. Pruned the ceonathus. Absolutely love that shrub but it does need a bit of work to keep it in check. Also had a spell tidying up in the greenhouse and then after lunch I had an hour and a half in the plot whild]st her ladyship visited her dad in his old folks home. Lifted the last of my spuds, harvested the last of the cherry toms and stripped the carburettor off my rotavator. It hasn't been running properly so I spent less than a tenner on a new one. I have to assemble the new one so took the old one home to use as a guide.

Made a lasagne for tea as well using up some of the toms I roasted yesterday and popped the leftover toms in the freezer. It's been a real feel good day.

                      • Evening all, we were supposed to get sun today, but none was showing, I had a wander round the garden and dead headed a couple of roses that are still in bloom, still got some welsh poppies in flower too, tough critters them welshies…………………….. Went out with my camera, first to Montrose basin, as Michaela Strachan and the film crew have gone it's safe to turn out. I then went to the forest looking for the elusive pine marten, still no signs, but the jays kept me amused.
This is the first yellowhammer of the winter in the woods, they come in find food and escape the cold.

'S'cuse me!...I know it was ' trick or treat' last night, but holding a hosepipe to my bedroom window all night it really going a bit far
Rather than planing down oak planks for door lintels etc I'm starting to wonder if we should be building a boat!
What with quanglewangle talking about it being too wet for toadsn'all I'm really starting to wonder!
Hibou's not even bothered to budge off her chair yet either.

We had a great evening yesterday-watched Shaun of the Dead. So funny.

Today is a jour ferries i.e. Bank holiday -I'd almost forgotten yesterday - just nipped out just in time to buy some barley so I can make wheat packs over the weekend. (Yes....I know!)

Tis November! Wow! (Not long now til 'you know what!)

Right...bit early I know -but time for a brew.
                          See ya later peeps

                            • Morning all, hope you are well. Not sure what the weather is doing as I’m still in bed...and intend to stay here a bit longer!
Had a lovely day out yesterday with my sis-in-law. Visited the hairdresser first and had my hair cut really short for the first time in my life and do you know what? I actually quite like it!! Went for a late lunch and spent the afternoon chatting, it was lovely. I’ve a horrendous cough at the moment haven’t slept for two nights because of it but I understand it’s doing it’s rounds so as I usually get what’s going round it’s no surprise that I actually have!
Hope you all have a great day. Off for a catch up so see you all later! x
