  • New Years gardening resolutions!

Along with the no crisps and wine for a month are you planning on anything else?

I've been doing some gardening in this mild weather and it's surprising how much you can get done when there aren't potting on, watering and pruning jobs to do....so my New Years resolution is going to be to spend at least 15mins a day doing some clean up jobs. I'm onto weeding my path tomorrow.

I'm going to make a different resolution every week and try to keep it.
I never last more than a week anyway.

I have also taken advantage of the nice weather and got quite a bit prepared for the spring. My resolution is to learn something to do with gardening/chickens etc etc everyday.

Mine is simply to hoe more, catching the weeds earlier.. I say the same thing every year - but there's always a bit that gets out of hand

                ^Good one.

Me, I've got lots of resolutions. Goodness knows how long they'll last.

Work: don't take on too much and bill asap.

                Garden:
Start seeds and plant out seedlings in time.
Also need to get to grips with mulching, for which I need to find a source of hay.
Keep beds planted with something edible or green manure to maintain soil.
                Get to grips with bokashi.
Don't grow more than we can eat or store or give away to friends who genuinely want the veg.
Keep the brambles and weeds down around the house and well, as well as in the veg patches.
Think about flowering plants as well, including autumn-planting bulbs.

My resolution....the same one I make, and break every year...DONT grow so many tomatoes.
Each year I make this promise to myself and then find myself adding a few more just to give them a try.
After making sauce, soup and pasata there are still frozen tomatoes in the freezer.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                    My resolutions are:

Grow a little earlier this year. The year before I lost many to frost, and this year I grew some things so late that my squash plants only flowered in September.

Cut courgettes when they are sweet and cute and haven't become monsters.

Try to grow new things - this year I'll grow potatoes, shallots and more flowers. And sow green manure not just buy the seeds!

I've also asked to take on the neighbouring plot which has become vacant so I'll have to be more disciplined about weeding efficiently. Helps that alot of the bindweed and couch grass in mine is under control.

Think about slug control. I use blue pellets (shame I know) but not sure how to manage after the ban.

                      My allotment resolutions are

Dig up the last bit of carpet ( this was one of last year’s resolutions I didn’t quite finish)
install a second compost bin (ditto)
Try growing some new things like aubergines and artichokes and celery
Try to reduce the amount of single use plastic I buy, particularly packaging
To make sure I take the time to enjoy my plot. The bench didn’t get enough use this year

Mine is " I'm never planting that again". Doesn't matter what "that" is, there will be something

mine is "keep a diary" and "label things "so if something goes right, I'll at least have a chance of replicating it.

                            If I don't make resolutions I won't break them.

                              Start seeds off early.
As I actually have them now, arrived just after Christmas - thanks Rachel.

Need to find a propagator or two next.
