Anybody got CCTV running at home? What have you got i.e. Brand and spec. We had a mirror ripped off a car over the holiday period and would likely have been able to identify the culprit(s) if we had a suitable system. Now trying to identify what we need and how it works

I have hikvision kit bought to replace swann.

NVR-108 4TB WD purple, cameras on it are IPC-D140's 4MP using POE from the NVR. I personally don't like wireless and the system is air-gapped from the internet.

It's not the most user friendly but it's functional and miles better than the old swann system. Night vision on the bullet camera (ipc-b140) I tried was rubbish though fine on the domes.

It really depends on how far, the camera lens and the positioning of the camera as to whether you'd be able to identify a person. Here's an example of how much difference a lens focal length makes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lub0MnbpIxI

I initially bought my first system after a break in, I wouldn't be without CCTV now as much for peace of mind as anything.

Here is the England and Wales guidance on positioning of cameras - CCTV

      https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-your-property

Did a quick search for Scotland guidance, but not found on 1st page.

Quite a number for prosecution by neighbours and public, so main learning point seems to be "keep focus inside your property" where ever possible and put up a sign.

We bought a fairly cheap one from A!di a few years back.
It was really to see what wildlife was wandering around our garden.
It wasn't a clear enough image. You'd only be able tell if a trespasser was a bloke or female.
We could tell a chicken from a blackbird
We needed to take it down at the beginning of the tourist season as it overlooked part of the garden they use.
Never went back up again. So..my advice would be .....just check on the clarity of the images( Day and night )before buying

Data protection legislation is the thing, surprised no ones been sued for having one of these dash cams, you cannot just record people it seems in law.

            Hi,

Dont be put off by the law, as long as you are doing this to protect your property and family, it is fully legal. I have a system in place that mainly looks toward my house in my back garden but I installed one that overlooks the front garden and pathway because a dog owner was letting his dog fouling in our garden. This stopped since the camera is there.

Everyone need a cctv these days.

You can't record what happens in the street in front of your house with cctv, but you can with a Dash Cam. Funny new world.

A friend has 2 of these, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-...torefresh=true linked to his wi-fi via his laptop and the cameras can be shown on his TV. Motion detector sets off the recording.
Don't ask me any questions about it as I haven't the foggiest.

Park the car and cam on the street then!
