Whilst sorting out today I found my "Allotment Record Book 2004-2005".
It starts on 17th June with what I picked and a nominal value.
Alongside each item, I've written what I did with it and there are some very strange "recipes" written in the back of the book! Mostly failures!
Here's the first week
17th June
2lb new Potatoes 50p Cooked for dinner
1.5 lbs peas/mangetout 60p Stirfry/peas to freezer/peapod soup
4lb Rhubarb £2.00 3lb Frozen. 1lb stewed with ginger
1.5 lbs raspberries £1.00 Dessert for a couple of days
21st June
8oz Mangetout 25p Dinner
25th
1lb 12oz Broad beans £1 = 9oz shelled = Freezer
Lettuce Little Gem 20p Salad
Garlic £1 Preserved in oil - one jar
1.5 lbs raspberries £1 Dessert.
I also wrote down my weight and I've put on 4lbs since then
By September 2004, there was £13.42 in the Moneybox from plants that I'd sold at the gate and a lot of veg & fruit in the freezer and in jars.
Sadly, I had to give up the allotment in 2005 as my OH was very ill. My garden doubled in size that year too and I've never had the time to go back.
Anyway, the point of all this is that I'm going to start my little book again. I've enjoyed looking back at the successes and preserving disasters so much that I'm going to turn over the page and start 2019 afresh.
I know some of you keep records of your crops. Care to share your methods or join me this year with a Little Book.
