I've got a few no-(diggidy)-dig beds mostly filled with woodchip (pine by the smell) which I imagine is fairly acidic. I've been adding woodash - which is alkaline. Just started mowing the grass so adding that as a green to brown of the woodchip. Chucked a bit of garden lime on for good measure. Half composted compost too...
The woodchip has overwintered under weed suppressant - there is some sign of the odd bit of fungus but I was hoping for a bit more decomposition. I guess now I've chucked a few more elements into the mix and with the temps. increasing over the next month or two I might end up with something lovely 'under the covers'.
Fingers crossed.
Whatever, I planted some poundland red baron onions in a highly woodchippy bed yesterday - 'he who dares wins' - on a very tight budget
If it all works out wonderously I'll let you know.
If its all an unmitigated disaster I might keep schtumm.
Much love
