  • Good year for goosegrass - Galium aparine

Blimey... seems to be a good (v. Bad) year for goosegrass. Hedges at the plot are full of the stuff and it had a chokehold on one hedge at the back of the garden - no longer as that's how I've been celebrating Easter...
I need a new mattress, so might use the bleddy stuff for stuffing one.
Anyone else seeing more than usual amounts of it and is it worth drowning/composting?

It seems to be the only weed that hasn’t been affected by the dose of weed killer I gave it 10 days ago. Some weeds were wilted bu now seem to be recovering so another dose is needed.

Goosegrass/cleavers has many uses, can be eaten as a green vegetable or used to make a coffee substitute.
Baldy, tell people you're growing it for those reasons and they'll be impressed.

I was contemplating using it as a substitute for 'Camp Coffee' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Coffee

I hate that stuff, makes me all itchy. Sticks to me, sticks to the dogs. I bash it down near paths wherever I see it. Which reminds me: I haven't seen any for a couple of years. Too dry, maybe?

We get it every year and it's a real pain to hoe because the stem is quite wiry so it won't cut easily and it just re-grows. I must admit to enjoying pulling it out at the root because it's amazing how much there is of it that hides amongst other plants.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Oh so that's what goosegrass is! I always knew it as stickyweed when I was a kid :P

I've got a patch of it sprouting up right on the front boundary of my front garden that I need to do something about, I keep forgetting about it when I'm actually out in the garden though XD
