Bad Head.
I have them occasionally, even had one yesterday.
I have switched from Migraleve to Nurofen Migraine tablets. Suites me much better, works faster.
You need to be in the dark to cut down on the information your eyes have to deal with.
Cool and quiet and try to sleep.
I have the focal plane type which disturbs vision, makes me feel sick, dizzy and can cause small areas of numbness on the body.
I did some research on them a few years ago from a library book so I know i need to not get stressed, squint in the sun, sleep plenty, Avoid over using your PC, avoid flickering lights, what foods might trigger one. Unfortunately everybody is different with triggers.
Get some tablets from the chemist before you have an attack, so you always have them handy in your bag, car, home.
The faster you take a tablet at the start, the better chance you have of getting rid of it.
Finally mention to your doctor you have them, get your blood pressure taken and have reqular eye tests.
Get well soon.Blogging at..... www.thecynicalgardener.wordpress.com

Hadn't thought of the lights aspect - my migraines have nearly gone since I changed my glasses to reacta-lights. The optician recommended them to counteract glare from car headlights. The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

Hope it is over soon Headfry. Please accept many virtual hugs to help it on its way.
Know what you mean about the thorough misery of it. Mine are triggered by sunlight glinting off things, difficult to avoid some days. They always last for two and a half days and it feels like I have an axe buried in my head just over my left eye. If I take painkillers early enough it will stay at a level where I can just about function but if I don't take them then I can be felled for the first day.
I am very grateful that mine are not triggered by choccy or wine that would be even more hellHappy Gardening,

Hi Nicos, Headfry is the name of my little boat (which I have wanted since I was 7ish) taken all these years to get me a little boat'ie of my own!
It's a real 'headfry' learning to sail her! but yes, I see your point it works really well that way too.
Thanks for the hugs, has made me feel much better and far less lonely! yay it's a good friday!Last edited by Headfry; 14-09-2007, 11:14 AM.

Headfry,
sorry your feeling bad, triptans from your doctor or chemist work but you have to try a few to find the right one for you, they come in tablets, rapidmelts (under the tongue) and nasal sprays, the sprays work quickest.
Knowing your triggers helps as does feverfew but you have to take it EVERY DAY which may be why it hasnt worked for you in the past, I have a metal tea bag thing from ikea which you could use for the leaves to make tea or just steep it in your morning brew if the taste doesnt suit you.
now for the less conventional one, I suffered from migranes from the age of 6, really bad pain, light, sounds, burning, nausea, dizzy etc, I would just go to bed in the quiet dark for two days and try to sip water without throwing up, during my migrane I would have very lucid dreams, in my twenties an old hippy lady I was living with told me to re-enact my dreams so I pulled myself upstairs (my room was in the cellar), made some toffee went back to bed for two hours woke up just feeling slightly weak, no migraine,(I didnt even eat the toffee) the next time i had a dream about going for a walk in the woods where i used to take the dog and writing a post card, i went for the walk, (slowly with shades on in winter) found a pen where I was writing a post card in my dream, went back wrote a short letter went to sleep two hours later all well. sounds silly I know but I've only had occational mild migraines since then, never the really bad ones.
might be worth a try, I certainly couldnt have done anything when i had them if i moved id throw up or fall over.
hope you feel better soon.Yo an' Bob
