The Manyana effect and retirment

When I retired I was speaking to a long term retiree.
I suggested that at last I would have time to do all those jobs.
However he said that as you have so much time you tend to put off jobs till tomorrow, ie Manyana.
I now suspect that is true. Jobs I really don't want to do can easily be put off till tomorrow.
Anyone else noticed this effect?

A degree of truth in it Jimmy. Adversely I find I dont have enough time to do all I want to.

I've never understand how some people, on reaching retirement age, say that they have no idea how they will fill their time.

On the other hand, my late Mum used to say she'd had a really busy day when she'd had two appointments or activities. Saying this to a mum of two young children who had a job, an allotment, two voluntary committee roles and did morris dancing was a risky proposition.

I didn't wait for retirement to put off jobs I didn't want to do - there are just some things I really don't enjoy doing. Take ironing for example - no please do take the ironing!
( It would be awfully nice if you brought it back again later, all nicely pressed, although I guess this is asking too much? )

You used the word "job" but now that doesn't apply anymore. You're retired so you have the choice to do as you please. You've worked hard enough so why not give yourself some lee-way. There's always another day after tomorrow to sober up and say "I'll never do that again." All you need is a big hug when your partner asks you to say why on earth did you use my leg shaver on full blast!

I think this effect has been with me for a large part of my life, now gardening and fishing, that's different, that's more important than jobs(I'm also told going out with a camera is another dodge I have lol)

I'm not at retirement age yet but I often find myself thinking in a morning "I really don't have time to go to work today - so much other stuff to do." I definitely wouldn't have a problem filling my days. Having said that, one of my favourite occupations right now is standing in the grow room just watching the chilli plants growing. It doesn't get much done, but it's good for the soul.

I am a terrible procrastinator so mañana will definitely be a problem for me.

Today caught up with me. We have our Town Meeting this evening which I had to write a report for. To be fair I didn't really ignore it but needed to look at the minutes of my committees meetings over the last year and I've tried, not very enthusiastically, to look at the minutes. I gave up and telephoned our Town Clerk to send them to me. Very much like my homework when I was at school, last minute. Definitely manyana until it's a few hours away.

That's my view as well. I don't know how I ever managed to fit work in to my life!

I'm like that with cleaning and tidying. I leave it, then I leave it some more... and another day or two until I get so fed up with the mess that it becomes a rewarding chore. I can actually see a difference in doing it when I do it less often. That's my excuse and I'm clinging on to it for dear life!! LOL
