Ongoing battle with the Devil trees.

Back of the house there are about 8 Leylandies. They were there when we moved in 30 years or so ago.
They make a wonderful barrier. But keeping them in check is a major problem.
Last year I paid �100 to get them trimmed.
So I bought an electric chain saw. I already had a pole chain saw but it is a bit unweildy.
I can only trim one at a time as the amount of branches fills the brown bin and then I have to wait 2 weeks for them to empty it again.
Some of the branches are 6 inch across, the chain saw go through like butter.

Anyone else got an ongoing battle?

would a garden shredder be a handy thing?

Leylandii chips aren't good for compost, but by the same chalk, they would be good for paths (or filling your bin with chippings to give your bin man a hernia...)

Also excellent for killing off/suppressing weeds on a new plot, spread over and leave for 12 months and most weeds will give up. After 12 months the chippings will have degraded and composted enough to use as mulch elsewhere without being so toxic to greenery.

You don't have to buy a shredder. Just rent one for a day.
