  • Beechgrove Garden programme - what are BBC playing at?

Glad to see Beechgrove back on air last week, but what do the BBC think they're playing at, taking it off air for weeks over the main summer season?

This petition is on the go, not something I usually do, but the thoughts in my gardening club are that the BBC want to deliberately reduce viewing numbers as an excuse to axe the programme.

If you find it a worthwhile programme, you'll find the petition here https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio...-garden-on-air
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

I've signed it, even without Jim, it's far more useful for information than Gardeners World these days and I find it more entertaining too.

I've just signed it as well and also copied the link onto another gardening forum.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

I've signed and shared it on Faceache but I'm not sure it's as good without Jim!

I've signed. Unless we protest, they won't know how much we like it

            Just signed, 6,598 signatures.

The BBC are a bunch of clowns. The money they waste sending reporters plus film crews to Scotland Yard as if a bobby will rush up to them with a piece of paper. Press releases will be done electronically and can be done in studio. Loads of similar instances. Lot of Chelsea stuff was repetitive, especially the gardens which they toadied on about. How much do those annoying commentators at Wimbledon cost, sometimes three a match! Beechgrove probably costs peanuts in comparison.

I figure if something grows well north of Aberdeen it's likely to do fine in my garden. I particularly like the trials they do of different varieties, such as tomatoes. They did a trial a few years ago of half plants with that rock dust fertiliser, and half without. Pricey stuff. The result? Don't waste your money! This is the kind of thing I want to see on a gardening programme. They don't mind saying it as it is.

Yes i find it useful as it’s much closer to the kind of growing conditions I have than say gardeners world. Mind you I enjoy that too more for ideas than practical advice.

I'm so pleased I put this thread on here. I used to watch GW and got the mag but it began to be repetitive, the prog became more like an instant make-over with bought-in plants and they whizzed over every topic so quickly that it was neither use nor ornament.

To be fair, Snadge, he did step down, he wasn't pushed. He was in my plot filming with a crew a few years back now but even then he was getting to be very unsteady on his feet.
