  • What sort of fly was that?

There was a fly on my window, about the size of a blue bottle but didn't quite look the same.
I blatted it with my fly swat.
When it fell on the windowsill loads of tiny riggling maggots fell out, YUK!
I mopped the mess up with a tissue a dropped it on the compost heap.
I though flys laid eggs not live maggots.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jimmy

A fly that's been parasitised? Another insect has laid eggs in it and when those eggs hatch, the larvae eat the fly from the inside out?

Edited to add: Or maybe this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flesh_fly

Sounds like one of the Blow Flies that are often found on burgers and beer kegs.
Might be best if you stayed away from the pub for a while, Jimmy.

            Define "for a while"

Until November when it will be colder - although by then the flies will all be indoors, feet up, in front of the log fire.

Well I had just sat down in front of the TV with my tea when this annoying fly appeared, so double YUK.

As for "till November", the wife keeps us stocked up with enough beer to sink a battle ship.
So I can no doubt survive until next November on beer alone.
If you include wine and spirts well, who knows.
