  • How hard can it be to buy a toaster?

I thought it would be easy to buy a toaster. A 2 slot toaster that can live on the kitchen worktop. I didn't want something that takes up half the kitchen and does multitudinous things I don't want and need. A nice simple one that won't confuse my hubby in a morning.(He's still getting used to the newish microwave). But I did want the slots to be big enough to take a large slice of bread (out of the breadmaker.)

I wanted to see it before I bought it. For this reason I didn't buy from the internet or Argos. I went to Dunelm thinking that they would have them on display. Oodles of 4 slice toasters on display but 2 slice ones - NONE! All the boxes security sealed and not a member of staff on the whole floor. I complained (of course) and got told they security seal them to stop theft. Steal them!!!!! Huh!!!! It's hard enough to buy one.

Fire and toasting fork comes to mind (shame I haven't got a fire!)

Dose anyone else have trouble actually buying things these days.

    Use the grill.

I hate ours, you can't get a proper slice of bread in it and it's nothing but a crumb-making machine.
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

Increasingly people buy stuff and send it back... the ultimate is people who buy clothes, wear them on a night out and then send them back!!!

Yes its difficult to buy things that will last.
Thing are not built to last so I have to keep receipts, where as before we just bought something and didn't worry about having it replaced. I hate returning things, I would rather get something that I know will last, and would prefer to buy less than having to replace things more frequently.

The last one I bought was from T3sco too. They have them on display so you can play with them and boxed ones on the shelf below. It wasn't at all difficult!!

Would you believe we don't have a Tesco. A few of the little Tesco Express around but not a proper one.

There’s no need to splash out on a toaster: this budget Argos model makes fantastic toast on the cheap. It’s fast too, and easy to use and clean. It’s a brilliant value Best Buy.

What I would like is one you can just switch one slot on as I can only eat one slice at a time.

I have bought one. Kenwood. It is a 2 slot but you can just heat one slot if you want. It has to be simple as in the last month my husband has knackered up the microwave (turned it on with dry oats (forgot the milk) in for porridge) and the old toaster. (At the moment I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt with that but.......he is 89 and forgetful.)
