Its raining and I've been ducking in and out of the GHs - and thinking!!!
Yesterday I saw this Quote and that made me think too.

I grow quite a lot of my veg, year round, in a couple of GHs - one is 12 x 8, t'other 10 x 6. These small spaces are more productive than the rest of the garden.
Why? - because they're on the doorstep and I can control them. The rest of the garden, apart from a few small pockets, is out of control for annual veg growing. Fruit bushes, yes, flowers and shrubs, yes but not for annual veg that need more attention.

Maybe, I'd make better use of summat like this because its compact than I do with the rest of the garden.



What I'm trying to say is that Size doesn't really matter when it comes to growing food, its not what you've got but how you use it (sound familiar)

Small is beautiful (or so I keep telling people when they look down on me).

If you put something like that into your garden and near the house, it would definitely make for easier gardening,but what would you do with the rest of your ground, I have set my garden out in raised beds which for me makes it easier to control all the garden though I doubt if I have as much ground as yourself, as you possibly know I made my flower bed in to a raised bed and it has made life easier

Love my tiny veg plot just outside the back door. In contrast I have almost 1/2 acre to use next year and the thought of even making a start on it is quite overwhelming. I know I’m lucky to have the use of more land but I agree that small can be as productive if you are organised.

m.d was just sitting reading the GYO. mag. and there is an article in it by Huw Richards about being overwhelmed by gardening work, and he suggests that you break down you tasks, well worth a read, VC possibly worth your while applying the same principal it's a lot of sense from a young man
Which reinforces what I think, that age is unimportant, everyone has knowledge that can be passed on

Keyhole gardens are on my wishlist but the reality is that anything not in sight from my front door suffers some level of neglect. Even the plants on the end of the verandah past the blowaway get forgotten about at times.

I sometimes find the garden work overwhelming but then I just do what I feel I can and leave the rest to nature and another day. Like when I look out the garden now, the leeks are growing tall among the weeds but I know they are not being choked and will be fine. I really should get up and go weed them, but it’s too cold just now.

Get some ducks they love slugs, my neighbours ducks used visit my garden and we’re great in among the cabbages at clearing out slugs, unfortunately I have to close the gates now because he has about 30 geese and when they get in they trample everything and everywhere, and when the sh1t it’s as big as a large dogs and it can be anywhere, on the gravel, on the lawn, on the doorstep etc...

Oh my word, I remember when that was broadcast. I nearly threw up. Only the celebs in the jungle have ever made me feel like chucking up since then.
