Already 500' above sea level here - if my garden is awash, then most of the rest of the country is already in serious trouble.

It's like May here today. But at the weekend and next week, the highs will be 3 ºC. I can't fathom how plants and animals cope.

        Isn't uk winter December/January/February?

Temperatures tend to lag behind solar changes (ie the nights get longer before it gets cold, and stay cold for a bit after it warms up)

According to the Chickilingian Calendar we're in Season 3, the season of short days and long nights, the time of rest and recovery, planning and preparation. Before you ask - its November to February.

For an extremely rational explanation, which has been accepted by many well-respected gardeners, see https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ear_97126.html
