  • I thought I had stood on a mouse whilst washing the dishes.

Luckily for the rodent population it was an Ariel Pod that had fallen out of the cupboard. It made a heck of a mess though and the sink was rather 'frothy' for a while.

Overcast but still cold here. I am still stuck indoors conserving my energy for when my load of logs eventually arrives. Stayed in yesterday but logs were a no show. Can't complain really as he did say Thursday or Friday.

I am itching to get back to the allotment so hopefully tomorrow I can combine visit with topping up the shopping. I have a sausage pasta bake in the oven so hopefully I will be able to buy some more pasta tomorrow. I have a breadmaker which I used to use with the ready made bread packs which had everything in them. None to be found lately though.

Take care folks and stay safe.

    • The logs have now arrived and the majority have been stacked. My back is aching so the three wheelbarrow loads that are left to stack can wait until tomorrow. It was forecast to rain this afternoon but luckily the weathermen got it wrong again so my logs stayed dry.
If I've got the energy I may visit the allotment tomorrow, mainly to water stuff in the greenhouse and possibly sow a few seeds.

      Stay safe all.

        • Good evening a light rain started early afternoon fortunately it wasn't heavy enough to stop work so managed to set up a bed with a couple of poly cloches, then was in the greenhouse and potted on some tomatoes with marigolds added to the pots, well keep safe, keep isolated and most important keep happy
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Seem to remember buying new expansion cylinders once - and it was straightforward swapping them for the old ones.
Don't tell Mrs Rary or she might try swapping you for a new one!

            • Mornin n'alln'all
              Sunny but frosty start here.
Looks like it's going to be a lovely weekend though!
The intention is to garden as much as I can -back allowing , and a BBQ tomorrow.

OH is making his sour dough mother and made crumpets yesterday. They were delish! Good luck Flo
If it turns out very heavy again an old French country recipe is to soak slices on top of a thick soup/casserole and grate cheese on top of that and bake for a bit longer until the cheese melts.
Works well with any stale cheese tbh.

                • Mornings!
The sun is trying to break through thinning clouds, so hoping for a warmer day than yesterday.

I'd like to finish sorting the greenhouses out, making sense of the piles of pots, modules and seedtrays KWIM? and get ready for all the seed sowing, I seem a bit behind with this year but need to be careful of my back today.

6 bags of manure and 2 of compost arrived yesterday, and the very 'helpful' delivery man just tipped them off the trolley onto the terrace footpath rather than actually in my garden. He said his contract was only to deliver them to my door *sigh* The usual man just pulls the trolley through the gate and tips them there, so I can take my time moving them - but not this one, oh no

Still I suppose I'm lucky to have got it delivered at all now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHPOzQzk9Qo

Have a good'un and stay safe

                  • Good Morning All Started off sunny but we have really dark clouds now. Himself had raging toothache in the night so he didn't get much sleep. He has a morbid fear of dentists so that's going to be fun, not. I dare say they're not practising anyway. I'm on a promise for a work laptop so that I can work from home part time next week, we'll see. Bread making later but other things to do first. Have a good day and stay safe at home

                      • Morning all. Dog has had his walk. Dishes are washed and kitchen is tidy. I now need to stack the remaining logs. Its bright out and I've taken painkillers so shouldn't be too much of a chore.

One thing I have noticed on other peoples posts is that back ache seems to be a common theme. So, take care of yourself and look after your back.

                        • Morning all.

Bright blue here today but a very hard frost this morning. More rain due after all early next week. I still haven't even started on my patch. Ground too wet and temps too low. And I expect veg to be in low supply this year, even here... Also, no idea where we can get chickens and I'd love some egg-laying hens right about now. Consensus here is that lockdown will last into May now.

So, work on the cards today, as per. Might see if I can bribe Mr Snoop into doing the washing-up. Bribe to be more madeleine cakes.

Now here's a question for the cake makers reading this thread. The recipe I used for the madeleines is made with olive oil (brilliant for here, as butter is really expensive). But more importantly, the mixture sits in the fridge for at least an hour before baking. This suits me down to the ground. I can use the food mixer when the sun is shining (got solar panels) and then bake when it's colder at night and we have the range going. Can you think of any other cake recipes where the mixture has to rest for a while (in the fridge or otherwise) before being baked?

Good luck with the housebricks, FF. Great tip for stale bread, Nicos.

Have a great day, everyone. Catch you later.

                            • Morning(just). Late up today as I stayed up late last night to get a delivery slot for groceries. Three weeks time and late evening. It’s the most exciting thing in my life at the mo. Oh, and I took delivery of a potting bench yesterday, so I have that to assemble.

My home brew went off and has spread a wine lake over the kitchen floor with the consistency of egg whites. It’s impossible to mop up so I’ve found the best method is to put heavy duty, slightly damp, cleaning cloths down, stamp on them and leave for an hour, then peel them off. This is going to take some time as it’s a big floor and I don’t have many cloths and I can’t just nip out and get more.

                              Laters.

                              • Well done with the delivery slot Janie, I tried a dozen times last night without success. Hope you clear the floor soon. Breadcakes look ok, if a bit crusty on top.
