  • Morning, my lovelies. Good to see we're back up to speed again. Not sure what happened, but whatever it is I hope it keeps up.

Raining this morning, dagnabbit. Had hoped to do a bit more scything today but no go on that. Might venture out in a mac to sow some more seeds. Leeks, I think. Very late. But like the tomatoes yesterday, better late than never. Even if they're small, I'll be glad of them. Love eating leeks but hate buying them, as they're so expensive here. Then it'll be time to look through the brassica seeds and work out what I've got space for.

Meanwhile, I'd better make the most of the miserable weather and get on with some work.

Catch you later, guys. Have a good one meanwhile.

      • Mornings!
Normal service has been resumed, long may it continue - do we know what was happening?

Anyway, I've just taken all the tender-stuff back out to the greenhouse, down to 5C last night, so I made the right call bringing them in

The sun is really hazy so don't know if it will stay around, or not, and it feels quite a bit cooler than the last few days. Birds are still going crazy in the hedge though.

Have a good'un and stay safe

          • afternoon n'alln'all

Just watching the rain clouds steadily approaching and hoping we get more than a splash as everywhere is so dry!
OH has cut the lush field/garden very short in anticipation....
We seem to have a pheasant in the woods which keeps calling out-presumably looking for a mate?

Yesterday I watched a few birds yanking moss out of the lawn and flying off, so clearly more nest making is going on

I've been on semi bed rest with my back for a few days now and seem to have picked up a pet bee
It has been flying in and out of the window lining a hole in one of the ceiling timbers (several holes in fact) making a ' nest' ...is that the correct term?
In and out every 6-10 minutes Day in Day out.
Going to be interesting when the young hatch!

We've also had a hornet trying to start a hive on our bedroom ceiling
Sticking chewed up wood onto the surface.
OH has pushed it out of the window a few times now and destroyed its creations and I think it has finally got the message -but it's huuuuuge .
            Clearly a queen.
And fortunately a European one. (Had it been an Asian one it would have been permanently dispatched for sure. )

Well done everyone with keeping on trying to post -it'll finally get sorted -just wish we mods could keep you updated better -sorry.

Right -off to make some chocolate mousse for tonight...mmm....

                • Afternoon. I’ve got several bees flying in and out of the kitchen. I wish I could find the keys to my windows to make it easier for the to find their way out again. One of them was a queen so I think they’re trying to swarm. I’ve got the local beekeepers number handy just in case. It’s happened before but I stored the photos on the hard drive of my old tower system. I lost them and a lot of others when it crashed. Thank goodness for the cloud.

I’ve sent photos of my gardening progress to my children. My youngest doesn’t believe I’ve done it all myself. His gf has tried to explain that as I’m not allowed visitors it can only be me.

I’ve now got to clear a space to plant the vegetables that have germinated. I really, really need either a bonfire or the tip. The first’s not allowed and the second is closed and my car has a flat battery anyway. Moving the stuff around isn’t dealing with the problem.

                  • Good afternoon it has been a nice warm day today, though a lot of cloud blowing past with a big black cloud which will be heading over shortly, the Vine is still running very slow, I tried getting on twice this morning but gave up, I hope that this gets sorted quickly or I can see me leaving, I have more important things to do than sit and wait for a computer program to connect, there's paint I can watch or even better grass growing, I am now going out to sterilise more soil as I am using that rather than compost

Tried posting this at 1830 on 27/04, that's just incase I don't come back on for a while

Like Jay, I wasnt expecting a good day but the sun shone, and is still shining now.
                        Hope all are well.
The vine seems to be moving a little faster now.

Do what they did in "The Great Escape" - shove it down your trousers and shake it out when you go for a walk.

                          • Evening everyone,
I had planned to mow then lawn and start to organise all the junk/pots etc that I have cleared out of the greenhouse, but sadly I have been stuck indoors working all day. This has somehow led to me ordering more veg seeds, I don't know how it happened, honest!
Hoped to mow the lawn this evening but didn't get the time and now I see we've finally got some rain, every day for the rest of the week...typical!

Hope you've all had a lovely day.

                            • Good evening, have been sterilising my home made compost and some soil when I started going through the compost to remove any worms I found 2 flatworms one was the biggest I have ever came across and surprisingly the compost was full of worms, not sure about the reason for that, the bags that the compost was in were sitting on a polycarbonate sheet on top of a box a 4 inch overhang all round then a heavy plastic bag with no holes in them and though not tied were rolled closed, so either the flatworms had quite a climb or they were in the compost all the time and yet I still had a good number of worms in it also, I am thinking they must have been in the compost or else they can move vertically on a smooth surface, well I don't suppose I will ever find out, but I do know they won't be any bother to any earth worms in my garden and the compost has been steamed for about 35 minutes so hope it's now clean. Nice to have the Vine working a bit better this evening hope it stays that way, as I find it a bit easier to move about it than other forums I have tried, keep safe, keep happy and smile

                              • I send a smile back to you rary!
I'm just listening to rain bouncing off my window...reminds me of caravan holidays when I was a kid!

I'm so pleased it's raining -we were at the stage of watering the strawberry plants! Utterly bonkers for April.
We had a fantastic rumbling of thunder most of this afternoon too -brings out the inner child in me.

I've never seen a flatworm rary. Well done spotting them
I think our 'normal' worms should be appearing with all this rain -not seen any for a while!

Anyone else inundated with greenfly? Our kale flowers turned out to be about 50% whitefly I was really looking forward to eating the flowers like PSB!

Before the rain started this afternoon I managed to sit out in the garden and read for a while. There were 2 swallows flying around catching flies -they are stunning to watch.
                                Always lovely to see them.

Anyone seeing more wildlife at the moment whilst there are fewer peeps around to disturb them?
The bats have been active at dusk and it's been wonderful watching their flying skills too.
We've also been hearing roe deer barking at night -I thought they were foxes until I did a bit of a gooogle to compare their barks.
It's good to have the chance to stop, stand and watch/ listen eh?

Right -the painkillers are kicking in....I just need Mr Snorey to quieten down now!

                                See you later peeps.
