I had a bantie called Boudicca once. Because she was very fierce when she had chicks. (Grin).
What type of hens will they be? RIR or something more classy?
Names... How about Brandy, Buffy, Bambi, Blondie, Bianca, (dependent on their colouring) or Bonnie, Berry, Bryony, Belle, Bobby, for regular happy chucks, or Bijou or Button if they are petite.
OOps, LD already said Belle and Bianca. Well, great minds think alike as my mother said. Of course my grandfather said fools seldom differ, so I guess that's me (grin again).
Hope they fix the smileys soon.Last edited by mothhawk; 11-05-2020, 03:26 PM.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

Well today (because it was so breezy and cold and I didn’t want to be out in it) I’ve turned some dehydrated clementines into marmalade.
It seemed a good idea to dehydrate them when they were cheap last year - I was thinking of posh cocktails with a nice crispy citrus slice.
I dehydrated so many that I would have to live to be a hundred and twenty and drink 10 cocktails a day to use them up.
So I have rehydrated them in boiling water, added a slug of whisky and (following ameno’s instructions) made just one jar to see how it turns out.
Not bad!
i shall do a bit more tomorrow, but add a bit less sugar!

Good afternoon it has turned out quite a nice day again comfortable for working in I potted on some tomatoes then strimmed the bit of field that the boys were working on and while sitting about looking at the garden I am now considering building a hut where I can store all my garden equipment use as a potting shed and have a fire, it might never happen but I think I will draw up a list of what I need, I am surprised that you have never made a damson cobbler before, Nicos I thought that's a thing you would have made years ago, now tell me, what's a damson cobblerit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Some absolutely great suggestions there. Only trouble is, well actually, two troubles:
1) Chickens won't be arriving till next week after all.
2) We had a conflab over supper and the names have now been selected. Would have let you know earlier but not easy getting onto the site. So they are: Betty-Boo(dicca), Barbarann and Billie-Jean.
Mothhawk, they'll be RIR. Nothing fancy at all. Not much choice round these parts unless you get them by mail order. Must be terrifying for the birds. Ordinarily, we could also get Leghorns or Castilian chickens at an agricultural market, but none of them being held at the moment. But, any chicken is better than no chicken.

Evening n'all!
good to see so many peeps managed to post today.
(well done Flo too!)
more paperwork needed doing today so rather than go out (as we are now officially allowed to do in France) , we stayed in getting things up to date.
Its my daughter's burpday today ( first born) so we had a wonderful WhatsApp with her earlier.
For some mad reason we have our two children's burpdays and our wedding anniversary within 15 days -it was just a two week party fest when they were younger!
And speaking of younger...rary -my granny used to make apple suet pudding not cobblers when I was a nipper so I never really had one before.
What a change in the weather! We have frosts now apparently for the next week -one heck of a contrast to the last couple of weeks eh?
Not quite sure why but the electricity dropped about 4 times today. Just for about 20 mins each time but it is a pain when you're attempting to be a domestic goddess using modern equipment!
Clementine marmalade FEW ?... oh yum -I absolutely love that! Makes me feel all Xmassy !!!
Snoop - we have one hen called Bok bok cos that what she says when you talk to her or she's laid an egg!
BB ?...big bum ( if she's got a big fluffy bum?)
....you didn't expect typical names from me did you? Te he
right...fingers crossed tomorrow brings us less frustration on here -but it's great that peeps are trying to post.
time for some beauty sleep......
