  • I wash everything that needs to go in the freezer or fridge. Everything else just gets left in the bags somewhere cool for three days. That said, the WHO has decided transmission via surfaces is in fact negligible and its aerosols that are the main source of infection. Hence its belated insistence on masks.

    • We are welcoming London to tier three over the weekend.
At least we are still allowed to cultivate the ground for food.
I have not washed anything I have bought in the supermarket.
The reason for this it because I passed someone in the street who was coughing all the time and felt very faint or almost negligable symptoms afterwards. It was a week or so before we got stripes on the supermarket floors.
It has been a slightly more snuffly winter this year but I would put that down to the first frosts being late.

Well, now the run down NHS is reaching breaking point. Getting on for 1000 a day dying ad that is from the virus not counting associated deaths where people are not being treated due to the severe shortage of staff and resources. The nightingale hospitals are pretty useless unstaffed. So roughly 50k a day testing +ve and 1k dying gives 2% chance if you get it not to mention the many other affects it has. You would be happy getting on a plane then with those odds I take it.

        • It has started spreading faster in some places.
They are still promoting touch screen phones for track and trace and they will obviously spread it especially since I have never seen one being cleaned.
I don't understand why they can't use the contact-less card readers as they have attached printers too for printing out letters.

          • My OHs new passport arrived just before Xmas and rather than have to sign for it I had my photo taken holding the package!
Thats a new one on me!

I hardly go out as I’m trying to shield as much as possible but , when I do, I take a tin of Dettol with me( had several in stock already in preparation for the gite season which didn’t happen) . I spray everything...Petrol pump handles....shopping trolly handles...

A couple of days ago we ‘needed’ to buy insulation and liner etc for the camper we are doing up which entailed going into a mega diy shop - we both wore 2 surgical masks to be extra safe and were surprised the breathing aspect wasn’t as bad as expected. In fact the glasses didn’t steam up as much as with one!
didn’t touch anything at all from leaving the car to getting back in - even the goods were placed into the van for us.

Strangely it’s not the risk of dying which concerns me the most but the Long Covid potential. No one knows how it will affect them, as it seems some of our response is genetically influenced. One variant may give mild flu symptoms but the next might kill that same person.

If peeps had bubonic type pustules on their faces instead of mild flu symptoms peeps might actually start respecting this virus.

Lets hope 2021is really going to be the turning point eh?

Its always the weakest link causing defences to crumble...reading on the news how people are flaunting rules makes me despair.

            • I haven't posted for a while, not even in the GR. I'm ill. This is the worst winter illness i've had since I had my first flu jab 8 years ago. I've had a Covid test, it's just a bog standard, very nasty cold.

What worries me is that I've been very, very careful, so I could only have caught this from someone else. So if that someone else had Covid they could've given it to me.

              Just be safe.

                • Just had an email from the council - we are still allowed to use our allotment once a day as our daily exercise ;-)

The tricky thing is, I’m also signed up to a sponsored long distance walk - which means that on days I’ve used my outdoor exercise allocation at the allotment, I will have to do 1000 lengths of the living/dining room, or 600 laps of the garden.

                  That should entertain the neighbours!

                  • It sounds like they only count the trip to and from the allotment once. Once you are there it looks like there is no limit on the amount of work you do or how long it takes.

Janie, really sorry to hear you're ill. I've really missed you at the GR this year. Hope you're feeling better now.

Many people carry diseases in an asymptomatic form, and that is why everyone needs to wear masks, since this can reduce the risk of getting sick, minimize the entry of the virus into the body. After all, there is an infectious dose with which the body cannot cope without the appearance of symptoms. I'm sorry you got sick. But this is a consequence of the frivolous attitude of people towards anti-epidemiological measures. even if you were as careful as possible, someone around you might not be like that.

                        • Not many people are aware that Covid can be caught through the eyes via air droplets.
I wear glasses when out shopping ( I sort of need them anyway but can cope without) OH wore his sunglasses during the first lockdown , but it was sunny....so didn't look out of place. Looks a bit strange now when it's dark and dismal, but it's much safer!

Unfortunately there is a very definite limit on how long I can manage (they have closed the toilets, and we don’t have a shed to nip into with the watering can.... )

                              That is a shame.
The contents of the latrine tank makes great compost starter.
I save my 25 liter tank until it is full and there is enough to pickle several wheel barrow loads of couch grass roots dead releasing all the nutrients the weed nicked from the soil. I sealed it under a layer of horse manure with a layer of top soil to start a crop off in.
It produced a good crop squashes and some fantastic peat like compost.

                              • Agree, it is a shame. Could you put up a little modesty fence? Heather fencing, for example?
