          Is it Crete.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

It was a Cypress in Cyprus.

The other was Arbutus andrachne, the Greek strawberry tree. I want one, but it would be rubbish over here.

                      Yay

A friend was posted to Cyprus many years ago and I spent hours and hours going through photos he took out there. It must've stuck at the back of my mind somehow!

Yes, and mantis ootheca, or egg sacs on the tree. I knew because I've kept them as pets.

The one in the picture is a juvenile, and tiny. I thought it was a little grasshopper at first. Shame I couldn't capture it face-on.

We were visiting Viki's sister on the base at Akrotiri too.

Fairly sure this is a Paphos blue, Glaucopsyche paphos but the darned things don't sit still and fold their wings up when they do.

Still hanging on this one if you can now you know where it's from? It seemed to be all over the west from Akrotiri to the Akamas peninsula.

The orchids were from around Smigies picnic area; we had a good stomp round there. Great views.
