  • Couch grass in a compost dalek

The edge of my border always seem to have couch grass infiltrating over winter. Not a problem, I just skim it off with a spade.
If I put it in the bottom of a dalek and the top up the dalek as normal, then leave over winter will the couch grass die ?

    Thanks Jimmy

I suspect not, especially if it has soil around the roots from skimming off.
I have a really awful running grass that's similar which I do compost, but only after leaving in the sun for a couple of days to dry right out first.

It's tough stuff. I drown it in a dark bin and it still tries to sprout after a few months. I've put the remnants in the compost heap after stopping filing it in November last year and I'm a bit nervous...

        OK compost bin sounds bad.
In the past I have chucked it under my Leylandi bushes , nothing likes it under there!
But they are running out of room.
Might shoe horn a bit more in.
        Thanks Jimmy

Can you not just leave it to dry out for a week after spading it off that will kill it them put in composter.

Organic farmers harrow it out and leave it on top to desiccate. Perhaps you could spread it out in the sun for a while.
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

a simple no. Let it dry, riddle off the soil and then burn the residue.

I agree with the above ! if its in contact with soil it WILL grow even from the bottom of a Dalek, especially if your Dalek is sitting on soil, the Rhizomes will root and spread under and out side your composter.
