LOL - heres one to sort the seedlings from the craggy oaks ive just booked concert tickets to see (alive, presumably)
one night only
special appearance
none other than
the all-time great
brightest star in the firmament
the all-singing
all-dancing
"GREATEST ROCKER OF ALL TIME"....

proby !
WHO?
(I assumed he was dead years ago but evidently not, The Return of, Carry on PJ!)
Not a lot to do with gardening but this is Chit Chat after all, LET THE WATER RUN DOWN was possibly the closest he ever got to a gardening song (unless you count, tweaked slightly, YOUVE COME BACK Cabbage Whites and SOMEWHERE I planted parsnip seeds but theyve yet to appear). But then perhaps one of his songs should be the anthem of Grapevine: I CANT MAKE IT ALONE!
Welcome back PJ.
So who do you remember (just about)?
bb
ps For those still completely in the dark PJ Proby was a major major star of the early 1960s, one of his first jobs was recording demo records for a guy who went by the unlikely name of Elvis Presley For some time PJP was seen as the new Elvis, his singing and stage act deemed so emotional and provocative that in 1965 he was banned from British theatres and British TV. BANNED!
(Bear in mind that this was all happening before such things as Swinging London, Carnaby Street and Mary Quant fashions etc; Beatlemania was just getting going.) Amongst other things he is credited with being the first western male in the Twentieth Century to wear his hair in a pony tail! Hell be 70 next year. Rock on, PJ
