I'm certainly not overly well off but I've never been what you might call poor, I've always been able to keep my head just above water. I guess I will probably go through life never being able to be a stronger person. Oh dear, now I'm depressed!

Some people don't need 'near povety' or 'deceased' or 'being a bar steward' to be strong.
It is life that makes us strong (and lifting weights ).
I consider myself lucky - I've been poor, I've lost my dad far sooner than expected, I think I'm a nice person , I've been divorced, but also married for now 16yrs. I now have enough money to buy the odd extra, I have 2 children (although at their ages of 13 & 14 I'm not sure thats lucky!!). I have lost weight so my health is better...
...so its my life that has made me strong - I still have moments of weakness too!!! A nice pair of shoes, or being told your staying or going by Sharon on the x-factor... these make me weak lol

There are certain life experiences that I can't go into, but since them I feel I have become stronger, more empathetic, realised the true sacredness of human life, calmer, etc.

When I am really sad (too many friends and family have died or been killed this year)
I start the day saying to myself....find one nice thing in the day. In my case, a flock of lapwings, a deer, a beautiful autumn tree, mist in the valley, just simple things. It kinda gives me a little more strength, and makes me smile.
It might seem simple but when you are very very sad its a task to find anything nice in the your world. So I just look for the one thing in a day!

I meant to do my work today
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree
And a butterfly flitted acros the fields,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand -
So what could I do but laugh and go?

If you never know sadness, how do you know you're happy?
I was humbled just last week in Mauritius by people who have almost nothing but are more than prepared to share it with me, and always have a smile on their face if not good food on their table.
Also seeing my dad cope with cancer and the knowledge that he wouldn't see the year out - what are my problems compared to those of others?Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

some lovely messages on here, my turning point was in 1995, i have a few allergies one which is life threatening and i suffered anaphalytic (can never spell it) shock, i can't describe the point of coming home and seeing things with a different pair of eyes, the feeling was something i can't describe, i think the enormity of what had happened hit me, it was so serious that they told my then husband i probably wouldn't survive. i was always happy before but it just turned my life around and made me think totally differently.
