I saw Kate Rusby last, I can't do the mosh pit anymore, then again, I never could back then. I find the big gigs to be crap, I worked for the Happy Mondays and Black Grape, and they were good in their day but they're getting too old now and too few brain cells left to string lyrics together. I also worked for the Manics with and without Richie, sad to say I preferred them without. I did note with humour that Stiff Little Fingers are still going...here is where I say I liked Blur and all hell breaks loose in the Oasis camp

Working for bands resulted in two things, a knackered back and poor hearing. But I'd do it again tomorrow if I could, funny days.
    Best wishes

I think we can all laugh at that one now andrewo. It was good for the publicity agents and it sold records didn't it? I will go on record and say that I like some of Blur's songs but Noel and Liam have the edge for me. Each to their own.

Hard to pick a favourite gig - seen so many bands in so many places but the old Glasgow Apollo with the 16ft high stage will always be special to me. Used to go to two concerts a week there. Seen most of the best rock bands in the world there.
Easier by far to name my two worst gigs - the only concerts I've ever left early.
Dire Straits - Communique Tour - Dire by name, dire by nature
U2 - Zooropa at Wembley Stadium - I go to cocerts to hear music, not to be preached politics at by some egotistical Irishman who was at that time so far up his own a*se he could lick his intestines clean.

          Yes! 27....

I got quite upset the other weekend, as we helped my OH's cousin move into halls and someone thought I was his mum

          He's 19!!! I don't look that old, I'm sure!

Last gig I went to was Maximo Park at Leeds Uni, I spent the first quarter of the gig pogo-ing with the 'youngsters' , and the rest of it at the back, being sensible. It was flummin marvellous! Going to see the newly reformed Verve in Blackpool, Nov 5th. I can't wait!!
Best gig....? Hmmmm. Oh that's tough! Can I have 3? Or more?!

Donnington (can't remember which year) with Metallica & Queensryche, amongst other gems.

            Metallica at Milton Keynes Bowl

Little Angels at Barrowlands in Glasgow

            Chemical Brothers in Manchester

I always, always have some kind of earplugs at indoor gigs though - my Dad has tinnitus really bad, I don't want that - you can still hear just fine with them in.

I go to Download every year (the new version of Monsters of Rock) and I try to get as near the front as poss - was right on the barrier for Metallica at 06

I'm into the heavier stuff too and I've learnt the hard way not to get to near the front at gigs! (Download seems to be a bit more sedate for some reason)

Most brutal gig ever - Chimaira at London Forum doing a "wall of death" (basically splitting the crowd in half and getting them to run into each other ) came back black and blue from that one!

Most enjoyable - Iron Maiden at Download 07 - sitting in the open air cinema wrapped up in my blankey in my camping chair with a big bottle of JD

Blimey! Makes my Johnny Cash at the Manchester Odeon in the 60s (all sitting down and politely clapping) sound as old and nunty as I really am!

Sarzwix, I meant to take my earplugs, but forgot in the rush to get in the taxi. Doh.

Best gig: Fatboy Slim on Brighton Beach, the first one, when I lived there (well, five mins up the road from the Pier). Lots of friends, no Londoners (but they cottoned on the next year and mobbed the place), and a couple of bottles of vodka tonic to keep us going. Went swimming in the sea afterwards, but you should have seen the beach next morning... glittering with broken glass it was.

Also seen Prince, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Moloko, Garbage (who were fab, still love em)

So many factors can sway a good/bad concert, venue, atmosphere, sound, weather etc.

A few years ago we went to see the Stereophonics at the Birmingham NIA and I have to say, it was rubbish! Ian Brown was there too and it should've been brilliant, but alas no - lifeless! The same with the Chili Peppers at Hyde Park, but it was sooo quiet, we had a chat with some friends we bumped into about half way back and we didn't need to shout. James Brown was there too and was such a disappointment.

Went to see Aerosmith this year at Hyde Park Calling and it was much better - lots louder and Chris Cornell (ex Soundgarden and Audioslave frontmant) was brilliant (especially when he sang Hunger Strike - one of my altime favourite songs) and that was in the pouring rain!!

One of the best gigs I've ever been to was Robbie Williams at Knebworth. I'm not a big fan of his music, but I've never been to see anyone who gets the crowds going like he does (awaits obvious Freddie comparisons..). That said, he was pretty poor when we went to see him last time at the MK Bowl.

Another gig we really enjoyed was Jamie Cullum at Kenwood House (Hampstead Heath) in 2004. Great venue, really relaxed atmosphere and had we of been better prepared we would of had a proper little picnic! We also saw Lucie Silvas at the same gig and enjoyed her little set. It was bloody cold though!

Sorry, my last post just mentioned the last band I saw. One of the best was Eric Clapton at the Albert Hall and that was because he shook my hand (guess how dirty it is now??!!!)
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

Last gig - Blackmore's Night in York at the Grand Old Opera House, absolutely brilliant!

Best gigs - hmm, difficult one, David Bowie at the NEC in 89 was fab, Marrillion at the Manchester Apollo in 86, Faithless in the open air in Mnachester in 98 were superb, Spear of Destiny were a band that really came over great live, saw them 3 times, and Toyah Wilcox was superb live, so full of energy! Even saw the Psychedelic Furs back in the earely 80's, and they were great live, tho not as good as the Cult whom I saw just as they were making it, very full of raw energy and brimming with attitude, excellent!

We saw Metallica and Iron Maiden at the Rose Bowl - great outdoor atmosphere

System of a Down at the MEN - superb set list, frenzied band, what more do you want!?

Rammstein in Birmingham (see attached pics) - last time we went in a mosh pit, nearly got burnt!

Lostprophets in Manchester - brilliant, but a little spoiled by the emo-children

Foo Fighters in Manchester - breathtaking!

Forgotten what a bunch of rockers and metalheads a lot of us grapes are
Best gig / tour - Motorhead Ace of Spades Tour - every gig from Glasgow Apollo to end of tour - how ? - Stayed behind after gig to meet my mate who was roadie for Philthy Taylor and ended up getting a job with the lighting riggers.
Carling don't do jobs but if they did........................

Saw Iron Maiden headline at Donnington one year, thought they were pants... Went back to the tent halfway through...!

Would LOVE to see Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is an absolute leg-end, but never been able to afford it when the tickets go on sale.

Does anyone remember Love/Hate? They were brilliant live, but they seemed to vanish after a couple of albums.

Worst gig I've been to was Sabbat (think? Or it could have been Sepultura.. summat starting with an S) in Queens Hall-Bradford, where the sound hadn't been set up very well - tons of feedback, and that sort of thrash/death metal where the 'singer' sounds like he's shrieking/growling ... Not my bag at all... (And they put a lyric sheet in the album??!! What's that all about??)
