Recommended Visits in S.Ireland?

Hiya

I'm off to Southern Ireland (Tramore to be precise) next Tuesday until Sunday for my big sis's wedding. We've hired a car for while we're there and want to go and see some places etc but don't know where to go.

Can anyone recommend some good places to go to that are up to 2 hrs away from Tramore? I can look in a book, but I always think a personal recommendation is much better!

I have never been, but heard the whole place is beautiful. OH and I would love to go. Whatever you do and wherever you go, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

If I remember rightly, there are lovely walks to be had around Mount Mellary, which isn't too far from Tramore (still in Co Waterford, which is a small county).

If you have a whole day, you could head into Cork City - probably just over the 2 hour mark (just about), but lots to do. City Gaol is an interesting visit, the English Market is great for foodie bits, and go to see the animals in the wildlife park and the old house in Fota on your way back to Waterford. The cheetah run is at 4pm daily in Fota (they put the cheetah's dinner- legs of lamb and dead chickens, onto a zip line and the cheetahs have to chase it and drag it off to eat - great exercise for them and great spectacle for the visitors).

(I presume that you are unlikely to be interested in going anywhere on Saturday morning, but the Midleton farmers market is on that day and that is very good, from 10am to 1.30pm).

IF you can possibly go home via Belfast then visit the Heritage and Transport Museum.Truly,truly this is worth a visit to Northern Ireland for it's own sake!!I took a seven,an eight and a nine year old there this summer as a way of passing the time and they didn't want to leave(neither did I)
You need a long day to see all of it and I promise you won't be disappointed!
I forget their website,but I dare say,if you go to Irish Heritage Museum you will find it.

I don't know where Tramore is unfortunately, but I can recommend the Kerry Ring (you might be miles from there!) and the village of Sneem and a great little pub and restaurant called The Blue Bull .........

We ended up staying there for two weeks - not in the pub but the village of Sneem!

If you have the time take a trip to Dunmore East - its a small fishing village not fat from Tramore and if I remember correctly there are some really good resturants down next the harbour.

Re pollys suggestion - it would be at least a 6 hour drive to the Transport museum at Cultra.

If you are flying into Dublin then take the coast road (N11) which will take you down through Wicklow and Arklow which has some of the best scenery in Ireland.Its also the part of Ireland where Ballykissangel was filmed - look for the signs for Avoca. Then come to Tramore through Enniscorthy, New Ross and Waterford town (home of Waterford Crystal) .

Saturday morning for the farmers market sounds good. The wedding is on Friday so fresh air on Saturday might do us good, lol!!

Beefy, thanks for the link. We know Tramore quite well now as my sister lives there, and she did the Triathalon there last year. It's got a beautiful coastline
