As Peter says, you might not be aware that your company is keeping tabs on your internet use, my O.H. 's firm have some 'blocking' which doesn't just block 'dodgy' websites but some that are totally innocent & they can get a record of all sites visited from the staffs company laptops, blackberries etc. They seem to be fairly tolerant though as long as you don't spend all day on personal business! Luckily I log on here at home so don't have those problems.

Practice makes perfect with this function - I should know, I've been using it successfully for years!!! lol

Ctrl + Tab is better as it hops straight out of what you are in to the next running application, without having to pick something from a list.

As far as I am aware, Ctrl + Tab moves between tabs or documents in tabbed or multi-windowed applications, Alt + Tab moves between applications.

Sorry if anyone is glazing over, but it is an important dfference. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, Firefox or Opera browsers, it will just move to the next browser tab, not to the spreadsheet you have on standby!

It is the electronic version of the old typewriter tab key. Generally far left above the Caps Lock, and larger than the other keys on the far left, it shows a left arrow above a right arrow, sometimes with the word Tab above them.

                Cool, thanks Scared 55.

Had not used that before, what it does it do? New lap top!

On my Mac you just press F9 but did not know there was a function on the PC.

                Ta, Mandy

What does it do? It is basically a multiple-space key. Alone it tabulates along a document, moves between fields in web documents and in many form-based applications. With the shift key it tabs backwards, and we have already discussed it in combination with Ctrl and Alt.

This is based on Windows up to XP, I have no idea about Vista, but assume it to be substantially as previous versions.

I don't think so Mandy - after 20 years writing software and systems I probably ought to know a darned site more than I do!

Glad to be of any help.

On my work pooter, ctrl + tab moves me to the bottom of the page I'm on ... have to be different haha!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

That is probably a function of the software you are using. As far as I know, in raw Windows Ctrl + Tab does nothing. Like any other key or combination of keys, it generates a code, which is initially interpreted by the Windows keyboard software, but can be over-ridden by other software.

Crikey you lot! I've learnt alot there.

Another downside I found today ..... sitting in the middle of the office I can't see out of any nice windows and those I can see out of look into a blank wall. So I got quite a surprise when I left the office at lunchtime to find the sun shining and a wonderful blue sky. I'd been sitting all morning with my desklamp on! Glad I only work three days a week!

Scarey worked for years in an office with no natural daylight. Fortunately, the IT area in which I worked was such that I was never more than 3 metres from an outside window looking over, at worse, the employee car park.

You have my sympathy. Having said that, the window in my study here in the converted loft is so small that, even on a bright summer day, I need the lights on to see what I am doing. However, we are planning to have a good sized west facing Velux window installed next spring, so we shall not only have much more light, but se able to see the fabulous autumn sunsets, too!
