I'm thinking maybe my daughters didn't appreciate my rousing rendition of Billy Bragg's 'Between the Wars'? Thought I was quite good!
Claire
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
Hahahahaha
I use my singing as a weapon, to get rid of the kids when they're being particularly "Mu-u-um" ish...! I only have to sing half a line before they're off!

I can't sauy as I blem them.....billy Brags not my favourite either ( apart from New England as ther are some good lyrics in that one)
the guy was a genius - who else could write the line
I am the milkman of human kindness, I will leave an extra pint. (they don't write em like they used to!)

I used a different technique. I asked the kids to sing to me. While they were singing they couldn't be talking but they felt appreciated Worked every time.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
Zager and Evans. Well ahead of the game in terms of environmental awareness too. You just have to look at the last dated line of the song...
Insightful given it was written in the 60's.
In the year twentyfive
twentyfive if man is still alive
If woman can survive they may find.
In the year thirtyfive thirtyfive
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth tell no lies
Ev'rything you think do and say is in the pill you took today.
In the year fortyfive fortyfive
You ain't gonna need your teeth won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
nobody's gonna look at you.
In the year fiftyfive fiftyfive your arms are hangin' limp at you side
Your legs got nothin' to do
some machines doin' that for you.
In the year sixtyfive sixtyfive
Ain't gonna need no husband won't need no wife
You'll pick your son
pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube.
In the year seventyfiveten
If God's a-coming he oughta make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say:
Guess it's time for the judgement day.
In the year eightyfiveten God is gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again.
In the year ninetyfive ninetyfive
I'm kind a wond'rin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothin'.
Now it's been tenthousand years
man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew - now man's reign is through.
But through eternal night the twinkling of starlight
So very far away - maybe it's only yesterday.
In the year twentyfive twentyfive if man is still alive
In the year thirtyfive thirtyfive . . .

The line I like in the song I like is something like
....
I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
Is it wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care
.....
I snigger everytime
