Hooray!! Our local council has decided to keep the green bin (garden waste) collection going through the winter this year. Last year they stopped at the end of October until March.

OK, I have compost heaps, but shrub prunings don't compost too well, and rather than burn them I put them in the green bin as the council presumably have shredders/chippers which I can't afford.

Yes, but do they have apple-munchers?

Our council is doing that too - good news for us as I've got most of an old hedge to get rid of but I'm not sure how good the take up will be across town as there is quite a few that don't use them during the summer months either!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Ours usually stop in November, but this year they're just cutting them down to one collection a month instead of two. That should be enough for me, as I don't usually manage to fill it twice anyway!

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.
