  • Help getting rid of a stink please

Okay folks, here's an odd one for you!!

I put spuds in the combi microwave to bake then ran to the post office. Got back to find the house full of the stink of burned spuds.

Any tips how to get shot of the smell please? And yes, I promise not to do that again!!!

Open the windows for a start, Shirl

Maybe try microwaving half a lemon in a little water for 30 seconds, should at least give a fresh citric smell.

    Good luck, Mandhy

Given that I incinerated a head of garlic the other day in the microwave (and it now stinks) I will try this too!

Wahey - I am not alone!!!

Stink dissipating - thankfully the microwave still works! No lemon so water with white vinegar is being used. Thanks for the advice.

O'Erindoors tried it with liver cake (for the dogs). We couldn't get rid of the burning smell until we eventually threw out the microwave.

Just a quick update. Smell in the microwave is not the problem - it stank out the whole house!!

Less stink this morning and I am sure opening the windows for a while will get rid of that soon enough.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and reassurances that I am not the only one daft enough to burn stuff in the microwave

Light some candles? Alway use candles in kitchen to get rid of cabbagy smells, seems to do the trick. Maybe get some of that fabreese or oust (sorry never used it don't know it works).

Smoke is an odour neautraliser, hence why pubs have been getting complaints about toilet smells and stale beer.

Stale beer? I never have any long enough for it to become stale!

Sorted it all out - cooked a curry last night - now the house smells of curry which is far more pleasant than burned potatoes.

Hi Shirl - hope you and the OH are keeping well! I was going to say vinegar and water, but you already tried that! One tip my mother in law gave me - and it works - well, it would have to with two house cats and Dexter - open two windows at the same time, preferably one at the front of your house, the other at the back, it then allows fresh air to flow through the house. It works! Honest!
