He was held from the first week of August until a week or so before Christmas 1990. War affects so many people in so many ways. It is so futile.

Someone I knew was sent to France with the expeditionary force in 1939, was brought back from Dunkirk, sent back with the D Day landings, and soldiered all through France and Germany until the end of the War.

Physically he didn't have a scratch on him throughout, but mentally he had nightmares re his experiences right up until the day he died.

I heard the story of a man in Aug 1939 went on a two week TA camp and next came home in 1946.

He got sent to the far east and was taken prisoner and it was not till early 1946 that he got back to Liverpool. Think about his kids didn't see him for 6 1/2 years.

That's just dreadful, not seeing their Dad for 6 months at at time has a huge effect on my children.
