When is the Equinox?

It struck me on my way to work this morning.

There were girls making their way to school who clearly had every intention of attempting to make themselves look older - hair, make-up, fag etc. All failing miserably bless them.

Then I thought about that rough old bird I saw on the "celebrity" jungle thing on telly last night. Apparently she was a model once upon a time, she was/is clearly trying to recapture her youthful looks. She was/is also failing miserably.

Therin lies my question - at what age do girls stop trying to look older, and women start trying to look younger?

Don't know about that one so much, HW, but I totally agree with Groucho Marx, who said that a man is only as old as the woman he feels!

Answer: depends on the circumstances - I still try to look older (hahahahaha!!!) if I'm in a Serious Business Meeting, but am happy to look younger anytime else!

Having said that, generally in my work and social life, it works very well for me being my current age.....

To be honest (and female)I don't know

I remember growing up through my teens and early twenties without much make up/fancy clothes etc as I had horses and seemed to live in dirty clothes most of the time. Going out was normaly (ok allways) live gigs so was not really a dress up look older type of thing.

Now maybe I am getting to an age where I should try and look yonger but have grown up to live in garden clothes! The only time I dress smart/make up is when going to a meeting.

Maybe I am just strange, I am sure you will get a few replies though

I mostly ignore my age. But on the odd occasion when I get a few streaks of red in my hair (to warn people of my contrary nature), I always ask them to leave my greys showing. Cos for a long time I was the manager of a section where I was the yougest by a good decade at least. And some of those resented that fact so I wanted every bit of maturity obvious

Dunno, never worried about age, used to annoy me at work when people assumed that I was younger than I was and therefore inexperienced but that doesn't happen these days - suppose I'm better at bluffing and look older now too. You've only got to worry when you start trying to look younger by wearing the sort of clothes that teenagers wear, never a good look, whereas if you dress to your shape and colour then most people look good whatever their age. Don't think you'll find many of the "beautiful people" (that spend all day on looking what they think is good) on this site but you never know.

I got my first job as a staff nurse aged 21, and was frequently asked by the patients "and what school do you go to lovey?" I hated it! Now at the grand old age of 33 my kids think I'm ancient and past it!! I'm past caring now, it's not your age it's your attitude!!

I'm perfectly happy to be 40 but it's certainly a 'funny age' in some folks estimation - not quite old enough to be considered wise and knowledgeable but a bit young to be offered the respect an ancient old dear deserves

Add to that how you dress, your current employment circumstances, the age of your children...

Nice one Peter. When you buy alcohol in our supermarket the till girl has to press a button because the till beeps for her to challenge the buyer. "Go on, make my day" I say, "Ask me if I'm old enough!" They never do. Flum yeilds dramatic sigh!
