We are registered with the TPS, and you don't need to register annually, once registered.

The system works really well for the UK, BUT, with the sourcing of call centres out of the UK, unfortunately the TPS cannot stop international calls.

Telephone Preference works you still get occasional calls but when you say you will report them to the TPS as your first sentence they hang up.

Not really my buisness but Sarah didn't say she *didn't* talk... just that she didn't really want to. From my own experience, however much you may 'owe' your MIL for providing your hubby, sometimes they're extremely hard work!

Interesting. We recently (a few months ago) started getting the odd call from companies who, when challenged, said thatour TPS entry had proably expired and we'd need to re-register. They could have been spinning a yarn - but several nuisance calls got through and since registering again it has stopped.

I guess I must be the only one who just says 'no thank you' and puts the phone down then?

Oh and if I was you bubblewrap I'd just tel the caller the person they wanted to speak to was dead and leave them to think about it.

The calls that really annoy me are those automated ones but I just hang up on them too. Oh and we have an answerphone on constantly so at least it costs them a call!

I still think legislation is needed to compel these call centres to up date their data bases say every 3 years. This would lessen the sort of call I was receiving!
There must be thousands of people in the same position.

                  It's really annoying, isn't it?
When they ask for Mrs So-and-So, I just say: "I'll go get her for you..." then leave the phone off the hook until the caller hangs up. No abuse, no temper, and they have to pay for the call ...

Lol, sometimes it doesn't work! On Friday I had 2 calls for my OH from a credit card provider. He has there card but there's been no balance on it for a while now. Anyway they tried to sell him everything under the sun when they got hold of him of Friday dispite the 'No Thanks' and 'But I have no outstanding balance' etc. It was really winding him up after 10 mins of it so I told him to ask the lady how he goes about cancelling his card.

                    She soon shut up

I tried that before we registered with TPS.

One double glazing salesman (& I used to work for one at the time (not a salesman) so no remarks please) took exception to me knowing more about the product than he did and kept calling even in the early hours of the morning. BT were asked to intercept the calls and the nuisance stopped.

So even being polite can upset some people.

I overheard a conversation in the pub one evening. The woman said that she received a call from a double glazing salesperson and then the door bell rang - she let the Jehovah's witnesses in and handed them the phone!

Whats the difference between a double glazing rep and a terrorist?

Oh you all know the answer.

Well most of the time the answerphone is on - most 'cold callers' don't leave a message! Which is why the automated ones are annoying.

I prefer to screen calls - anyone that wants to talk to us leaves a message or talks into the machine and we pick up.

I've had same company ring (my late wife)me at least six times.
changing the phone number was the best option.

I have the dubious honour of having a 'cold caller' hang up on me.

It was NPower, and they were trying to get us back with them. I told them they had no chance since they were throwing up wind farms right left and centre, and I was anti windfarm.

She started to lecture me on 'we must all do our stuff to save the planet' gubbins. At which point I said yes well go tell that to the chinese and indians (being the biggest planet polluters at the moment).

She said 'my mother was chinese', and put the phone down on me.
