I had a rubbish call not so long ago, and let him ramble on and on, just saying "sorry not interested" at the relevant points.....in the end he pleaded with me to hang up!
They are not allowed to hang up on you....laugh or what, it made my day!

I have done something a bit similar, but with one of those people that accosts you at supermarkets trying to get you to change power suppliers. Kept him going for ages, but had to stop when I burst out laughing. Cruel, I know, but I don't know about you, but when I want something, goods, service whatever, I will go and seek it.

When they ask for Mrs So-and-So, I just say: "I'll go get her for you..." then leave the phone off the hook until the caller hangs up. No abuse, no temper, and they have to pay for the call ...
Tee hee hee, I always do this too, never fails to make me smile! It's when they come to the door to get you to change to they're company or they catch you in the supermarket that it really pees me off. Although last time they tried me at sainsburys I said in a very load voice "AFTER ALL THE HASSLE I'VE HAD WITH YOUR LOT IN THE PAST!!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND YOU IF ....BLAH BLAH" They were so pleased when I moved on !

Sorry you've been having trouble BW - my mum had the same trouble when my dad died.

Last week we had a double glazing caller trying to sell OH a conservatory. he went along with it for ages, then finally said how clever they are these days, didnt realise we could have one on a third floor flat .... don't think he'll ring back for a loooonnnng time!! (We're not even IN a flat!)
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

I had a cold call this weekend, asian accent so I assume it was from India. They asked me if I was Mr B's wife and could they speak to him. He died 2 years ago . I was so upset I didn't do any of the things I used to when receiving these calls. We have been on the TPS for years and this is the first call I have had of this nature since B died.

Double Glazing - I say I would be delighted and ask them to call my landlord (own our own house and in conservation area).

Threaten them with TPS and £5000 fine for breaching it.

They try to get round this nowadays by pretending they are doing a "survey".

Not quite the same thing but similar in some ways. When my mum was buying a new car a few years ago, she wasn't quite sure and the salesman told her to go home and discuss it with her husband. She replied that this was a very good idea and she would love to do so, unfortunatley he had died 5 years earlier so couldn't. Shut the patronising g*t up and hopefully made him think in the future.........

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

The best way to deal with them is when tey phone up asking about a loan say "Yes and how much do you want", then try to sell them a loan ask how much they earn ect.

my mum rec a call from readers digest (my late father was an avid fan) 3 yrs after he had passed, they were trying to sell some sort of insurance or something, my mum explained he had passed away, the girl on the phone told my mum it didn't matter and she could sell it my mum instead! needless to say they got me on the phone, email, letter etc etc the next day, heard nothing since!

When we used to get the calls I dealt with them a number if ways. Just saying "hello" again and again soon made them put the phone down. One of may favourites was saying "hello Clarice, f,f,f,f,f,f,". Not very many people stayed on the line after that. Or, I do a pretty good Darth Vader heavy breathing...

Since we've been TPS registered, I have to say (touch wood), that we've had very few calls, if any.

Sorry to hear about your experience though BW.

Because I am such a socable creature NOT! We have our phone on answerphone until we hear who it is (tip I learned on an anti-stress course ages ago!). OH nipped to see Dexters Aunty Margaret this PM and the phone rang - I picked it up thinking I was going to be invited for a cup of tea...."this is UNICEF, please can I speak to Mr Dexterdog?" I very politely said he wasnt here.......she said she would ring back later.........much nicer than the actual words he said when I told him! Dexterdog

Not the same kind of nuisance but I got a call from Scottish Power at 8PM last night asking me to read my meter and give them the readings over the phone. They said this was necessary to send out accurate bills. Whatever happened to meter readers !
