Hope your Dad continues to do well HW. What a scary experience for you all.
ClaireI was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Been in that position when my mum had a couple of heart attacks a few years ago (suspected angina was confirmed on that day, but a rogue blood clot caused the HA's). Never been so scared or felt so helpless in my life. (I'm sure it what prompted me to become a nursing asst with a view to training up in a year or two)
Best wishes to you all, and hope your dad is well on the way to recovery now.Kirsty b xx

Went to see him last night and he's a lot more chipper. He can move around a bit now as he's no longer connected up to the static monitor, instead his wires all go into this little iPod thing that he carries round - very hi-tech! I asked my Dad if I pressed "this" button would he start doing a little dance? Got a laugh at least!
I think he resigned to the fact that he's given up smoking. My Mum has already sold on his baccie to my uncle - save one, kill another.
Dad's in for more tests today I think, on a treadmill, having his blood dyed, and various others I'm sure. Then I think he's off to some specialist hospital (Harefield) apparently to work out his treatment - it could be the other way round, I'm not sure.
It was quite sweet to see Dad having his dinner last night. He'd ordered all the healthy options from the menu - soup, fish (with rice instead of creamed potatoes) and fruit. He's already making healthy choices, I just hope Mum helps him keep it up (Mum's not a great cook bless her).
I'm always very thankful and courteous to the nurses. My wife and I always make a point of thanking them by name too. I think nurses and healthcare staff in general are absolute saints, and I'm always appreciative of people that does jobs that I know I couldn't do.
I think they discourage bringing food into this particular ward anyway, but when Dad leaves I'll be bringing in some contraband for the nurses regardless. Dad's having trouble remembering all their names due to the shift patterns - and he can't read the name badges without his glasses. Aww!
Sorted out his TV thing last night - took him in some headphones so he could listen after 8pm (sound is turned off the main speakers after this time). He seems happy enough, but I think he knows he's not out of the woods left.
The nurses and consultants are doing a great job keeping him positive - telling him that everything is going very well and such. He was measured and weighed whilst I was there, and the poor bugger's almost 2 inches shorter than he thought he was! But his BMI is 21 - so he's doing pretty well. The nurse said "you can go off someone you know" - which I though was nice.
Dad's got loads of visitors going to see him tonight, so I won't be going (only 2 visitors allowed round the bed at once) but I'll be keeping in touch now he's got a phone by his bed - via the TV thing.
Thanks for all yoru wishes, it means a lot to know there are people out there that understand, and who care.

Glad to hear your Dads on the mend, all the tests are good cause they'll help work out exactly what the probs is and then he'll get exactly the treatment/drugs etc he need.
Bless your poor Mum, maybe she can have a chat with the dietician about healthlier options and I'm sure they'll have lots of lovely fresh veg to look forward to next year!
Thinking of you.Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

Dietetics isn't all purgatory. One of our village stalwarts is a retired hospital dietician and she does some cracking recipes for the village quarterly magazine. Healthy can still be tasty. Maybe you can help your Ma out with a few ideas - you seem like a bloke who knows his onions!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Glad to hear your dad's improving Wayne. You'll have to buy your mum a steamer then she can't 'kill' all the veg. you're going to be growing for her! I was brought up by parents who thought coating everything you ate with the cooking fat from the pan was healthy as it put a coating on your stomach & built you up! Luckily it doesn't seem to have done me much harm & ever since I got married (26 years ago!) I've managed to eat a more healthy diet. I would think as your parents are only in their fifties they would be able to adapt to a healthier lifestyle fairly easily, just keep encouraging them.Into every life a little rain must fall.
