He he, she has an electric steamer which she used for a short while, but then got fed up cleaning it. It now sits gathering dust and gets used once in a blue moon.
There's a running joke in our family regarding the saying "it's not like Mum used to make" - to which my brother, sister and I reply "thank God!". - not to her face though! She'd be mortified if she knew.
One year we were at my out-laws for Christmas and the subject of food came up, and what you enjoyed as a child. The only thing I could say that I enjoyed every time was the cheese straws Mum used to make. My wife and outlaws didn't believe me so I sent a text to my brother and sister asking them what does Mum cook well. Both answered within seconds "cheese straws"...
She's coming over to ours tonight for dinner, I'm cooking a risotto with butternut squash, peas and Swedish meatballs - nothing like she'd cook at home.
However, I must confess I used to like her bread pudding as a small child too, and she's bringing some over tonight, I hope it's like I remember...

My Mum out law is nearly as bad, the first christmas I spent with them I was offered spam for my christmas lunch!!!! Since then if we go to them we take the food and cook it!!!
My Mum luckily is a wonderful cook and I've always tried to follow in her footsteps .
You don't sound ungrateful at all, parents aren't perfect they are only human. You obviously love and care for yours very much, doesn't mean you can't have the odd joke about them... as long as noone else does!!!Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

Mr Flum had a minor heart attack and had 2 stents fitted about 3 years ago. They didn't believe he was having a heart attack as he's not in the high risk category - never smoked, eats well, takes loads of exercise, not over-weight etc. However, his grandad and his mum had a congenital narrow bit in the artery - grandad was told in his 20s that he could 'drop dead any minute'! I believe he was 88 when he died!
Mr F was delighted to learn that the lady next door but one's dad (are you still with me?) had 2 stents fitted a week before him and it cost him £7000. Bargain on the NHS!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Spoke to Dad last night at the Harefield hospital, and he seems to be having a pretty good time all things considered.
For someone who was fairly adamant that he didn't like hospitals, and he wanted to go home on the night they took him in, he seems to have settled fairly well. When I spoke last night he said he had a bit of an emotional fairwell when he left the CCU yesterday, hugs alround, and he left them a box of chocolates that my sister bought in for him. He keeps referring to Clare (one of the nurses at the Harefield who he's known for less than 24hrs) as if she's his best mate, they've compared hand-held games an all sorts!
He even turned down the offer of us visiting last night!
I think he's obviously looking forward to coming home, but I don't think he's in any hurry. No nagging, three decent meals a day, coffee on tap, comfort, peace.
He thinks he might be home later today, which I find surprising given that they are potentially going to stick a mesh tube in one of his arteries....? If he's still in, we're going to see him tonight.
Of course, it's when he's back home that the fun really begins...A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

My husband who had similar treatment, was home on Day 5 - so that would be about right. They do the stent(s) while you watch on a screen so no big trauma. He was glad to get home though. Someone's monitoring machine kept beeping every 10 mins day and night - if that chap had been having problems no-one would have known - boy crying 'Wolf' comes to mind.
Hope he's back home soon - if he does as he'd told, his fitness level will improve massively. Himself did his daily walk with his binoculars (keen naturalist) so most of the village just thought he was a professional Nosey Person!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Just had a call from Mum, Dad's had two stents "fitted", but he's got pins and needles in one of his feet, so they're checking him out. Going to see him tonight, and I guess he'll be home tomorrow.
