Forty-two gallons -- the volume contained in a barrel of oil -- of Chanel No.5 Parfum would cost nearly $1.7 million, according to a study released this year by John S. Herold, Inc.

Thirsty consumers would have to pony up $4,237.63 for a drum of Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey, while a barrel of Coca Cola softdrink would fetch $126.45. Following is a list of the price of a barrel of various goods:
      PRODUCT US$/BARREL
      Gasoline # 103.50
      Coca Cola 126.45
      Milk 163.38
      Snapple 237.72
Perrier Sparkling Natural Mineral Water 300.61
      Tropicana Orange Juice 307.44
      Budweiser Beer 447.25
      Scope Mouthwash 682.34
      Starbucks Venti Latte 954.24
Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice Cream 1,609.44
      Pinot Grigio Wine 2,117.75
      Bertoli Olive Oil 2,370.71
Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey 4,237.63
      McIlhenny Tabasco Pepper Sauce 6,155.52
      Visine A.C. Eye Drops 39,728.64
      FLONASE Nasal Spray 902,304.00
      Chanel No.5 Parfum 1,666,560.00
To deviate from the discussion, after reading Two Sheds original post its a toss up between the Chunky Monkey and the Bud for me!

The Cretans use it for many things
The taste can differ depending which village produced it.
Tastes very good with orange juice.
Or put a soft fruit in it & leave for a few months.

Retsina can also differ the bog standard stuff is a bit rough but some have less "resin" in and taste quite pleasant.
The nicest bottle of retsina I ever drank was produced on Kos.

Thanks for the education. Must have been Retsina I was thinking of! Bought a bottle in Tescos years ago (had just turned 18 and working, so enjoyed the novelty of buying wine legally!!)
                    It wasn't that nice.

Sorry to lower the tone, but staggered to pay 1.15/litre for my petrol today - when did that go up?

Our fuel seems to be going up in price weekly. I've gotta fill my van tomorrow so haven't a clue what I'll have to pay, but wouldn't be suprised to find it's gone up since my last post.

We can thank our friend Mr Bush once again for the sudden spike in oil prices. He's playing another game of "my **cks bigger than your" with Iran (and the Middle East in general). The markets are reacting accordingly given past performances, but this time Mr Bush seems to be ignorant to the fact that Iran has a far bigger **ck than Iraq/Saddam had...

On a slightly side issue. We musn't forget that oil is running out, and is doing so at increasing levels as emerging economies grow. We all know fossil fuels are being consumed at record levels, so the more profit the oil companies make, the more they can invest in alternative sources (which they need to do from a marketing point of view to secure their long term futures) of power - which in a roundabout way is a good thing.

And before someone says about the largest proportion of the cost of fuel is made up of tax - I know, but the oil companies still make a tidy sum.

As for Coca-Cola - they've a lot to answer for anyway. Ruining Santa Claus for a start...

I'm surprised no-one had blamed the oil price increase on the bad summer. They seem to be blaming it for price-rises in everything else!

Well I did my bit for the environment today.

In attending a meeting the other side of town we all piled into one car ....... then what did the b*****s do, but leave me behind, so I had to tramp the whole way across town, with files, in snow showers and a bitterly cold wind.

I've had to turn the heating up I'm so cold
