  • What do you drive?

Just out of interest, what car (if any) do you drive?

On our allotment, there's a bit of a mix. Given that we aren't allowed sheds on our plots, most drive to the allotment (including me) with a boot full of tools and various other paraphenalia, and some cars appear to be mobile sheds.

I drive a Seat Leon Cupra (2003 model), and I have one of those boot liner things to keep the inside clean. Being a hatchback means I can fold the back seats down so I can fit my long handled spade, azada, hoe and other large items in, but there are a couple on the allotment who drive a Mercedes A class (the little one), and I often wonder how they fit everything in. Some have the full blown estate thing going on, but they're rare.

I really should have something a little more frugal, but I do love to drive, and the Leon fits me (which can be an issue) nicely. I thought about getting an estate, but to get an estate just to make things easier on the allotment seems a little folly.

    Mmmmm, Seat

    I've got a 55 plate Seat Alhambra... it's a lovely big 7-seater jobby

We have permanently taken the 3rd row of seats out for the dogs, leaving a huge boot, but the 2nd row of seats can also be removed for transporting large items. It's like a small Berlingo-sized van with the seats out.

It's good on fuel (diesel) and does everything we want it to do. We bought a floor liner for it, so we can transport stuff like FYM, bark, soil etc without it messing the car up too much!

I have a black vauxhall vectra estate which looks rather hearse like from certain angles. However fitted with a tow bar and roof rack it is a perfect pallet moving, manure pulling, compost carrying vehicle and is also great for our trips to France and can carry inordinate amounts of le parfait jars and Chateau D'arsac back across the channel.

Being diesel it is economical and being a turbo its gnippy too.

            I have a 2003 plate VW golf 1.9TD

It was given to me as part of my pay off and is a great car, would not swap it at all!

I drive an '03 Fiesta and can manage to get my flexi-bucket and various bits and tools in the boot - hoe and rake are too long though and must go through back seat to rear window. Can't take back seat down though, as toddler's seat is permenantly there.

OH drives a volvo estate (not a huge paddy wagon, but a little diesel one). He can take a fair bit, but even he has problems with certain things like old fence planks (toddler's seat is also a permenant fixture in his car). In fairness, the toddler accompanies us to the plot at least 50% of the time.

We also have a no sheds rule, but we can't drive into site either (building work is ongoing to housing next door) so everyone has to carry their stuff quite a hike, which tends to reduce volume of "stuff" on any one occasion.

02 reg picasso which also doubles as a mobile shed at times. It's amazing what you can get in it when the rear seats have been taken out
