Why do I get timed out of the 'Vine .
I have just typed a long post, but got interrupted by my darling daughter who wanted me to draw a mermaid for her, drew said mermaid, came back, finished typing the post, hit the submit button, only to be told I wasn't logged in - well I was before I left half way through the post - and I was gone no more than three or four minutes.
Can I change the timeout setting myself, or is it set in tablets of stone ?
    Whatever, it's bloody annoying

I've never had that happen to me. I selected something somewhere that keeps me logged in so each time I visit the Vine I don't need to login, it just remembers me. Not sure what I clicked and where it is.

Maybe you have the option of being 'remembered' when you log in - it's probably a check box.

      Hope that helps.

I've never been logged out either ( ), I probably ticked a 'keep me logged in' box.

(I do however constantly get timed out/page not displaying )

Also it's a good habit to highlight your entire post and copy (ctrl + c) before you hit submit, then if anything goes wrong you can try again on a fresh post and just paste (ctrl + v) it back on again.

This never happened to me until I changed ISP from BT to Tiscali and now I get disconnected every 20 minutes. It's damned annoying when I hit submit, get disconnected and lose the post I have written. However my problem is with Tiscali but I think that Rats problem is something to do with the grapevine so I shall get our web designer Ben onto it tomorrow.

Being an atrocious speller I pass each and every post through "Word" before sending. This means that I never lose my posts even if there is a problem on line.
I also ticked the box at the start, back in September that says "Remember me" or maybe "keep me logged in." so have never had the problems you mention. Lesley has asked behind the scenes for Ben to check things out so hopefully after the bank holiday we will know what can be done.

It's always a good idea to copy [ctrl+c] you threads as Strepsy suggests, that way you're always covered. I do the same - learnt from experience!

Otherwise if you get timed out you should be able to go back a page and see it again to copy and paste if you forgot to do it beforehand...

Ben has got back to me. He is going to adjust the software but you must click 'Stay Logged On' every time you visit the grapevine.

Will gladly select that option - if someone would be kind enough to tell me how to get to it - I've never seen it displayed anywhere

Log out. Now visit the forum again. The first page of the boards will look different. It will appear as a welcome to a Guest page. Choose to log in with your nickname and tick the box that says "remember me". Or "Keep me logged in". I will check it out after I have read all the new posts. If I do it before then I will lose all my cookies and not know what is new or what I have read.
