That sounds nice Flum, did you boil the ham first or just allow extra cooking time?

I did cook and cool the ham first Shirl. But not the sausage meat. Timed it as for a bird full of stuffing but because the ham was cooked beforehand it didn't mean I was cooking it for days!

I'm pretty confident that it cost a fortune - but then, it's only once a year and it's our first...

Hope you have a good one HeyWayne. Agreed on the once a year bit too. It is great having everyone round the first time I love cooking Christmas dinner but not sure Madmax enjoys the kitchen tidying so much

Looking forward to it if the truth be told. Traditionally I'm the cook in the house (I get home from work first), but Lady C it pretty adamant that she will be cooking and has decreed that the men shall go to the pub, whilst the ladies stay at home - I don't like to argue.

I think the dishwasher is going to get some use this year!

I've had three dishwashers (on my fourth) and when they've broken down irrevocably, it's always been at Xmas .

The classic was when I'd cooked Christmas dinner for 15 people and when the guests offered to help clear up my (now ex) husband insisted they sat down as we had a dishwasher. My daughter gave him a right dressing down after for his selfishness. Had I done that I would have been told that guests are not expected to help clear up and I was only being lazy!!!

I hope there's going to be a full report Wayne, after the event, of how it all went? Lots of satisfied tummies naturally, it does sound very yummy.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

As the event itself may well involve consumption of some of my plot produce I may well "blog" it! Photos and all!

That sounds like a fine idea! Those of us with existing blogs could run a "Christmas special" on our pages. I think you may be onto something there wellie!

I live about 4 miles from the farm, the birds are superb and a three bird roast will cost about, wait for it........

                            £90 ish depending on size.

                            Top quality shout.

Am I correct in assuming piglet that that would feed more than two people? I've been looking at some of the catalogues, and for that money you could feed at least 6/8 people.

I must admit to having been very tempted by the mixed bird roasts, but don't have a local butcher that provides them. The nearest would be Waitrose at Lichfield.

Last weekend I bought a beautiful joint of standing ribs of beef from Chatsworth Farm Shop, which I'm tempted to have for Christmas for a complete change.

Decisions, decisions, decisions, and only just over three weeks to go, aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh

Our Christmas roast arrived tonight. Two Shetland lambs reared on a remote island (Mousa), then slaughtered just this morning and now in our freezer!

Shetland island hill lamb is BEAUTIFUL, so a huge leg of lamb for Christmas and another one for New Year.

(........ and a freezer full of other joints, chops and cheaper meats, including the hearts - now searching for a recipe for stuffed hearts, remember my Mum doing those, hated them at the time, but it was always a lovely gravy.) Apologies to all vegetarians amongst us!
