Usually put them up about now but I've been so busy and Mr LJ has been away so often that it will probably be the weekend before we put them up! Also need to write the cards and haven't even bought them yet!!

Not normally this disorganised, but is it just me or has Christmas arrived sooner this year??

Christmas has never been the same for ever since I had a note by my bed one morning that read "Love Satan" - Dad never was much good at spelling!

Ours will go up in a week or two, perhaps when some of the neighbours lights have gone up - its like being 'fashionably late' to the party! We live in a little hamlet and there's always a carol singing session just before Christmas, everyone collects just at the bottom of our close near the Church and sings some carols - I might even go join this year rather than hang out the upstairs window listening like last year!

C'mon then who's got alternate Christmas deco's? What sort of stuff for Yule? Have you a fairy atop your tree?

I have a lovely star for the treetop made of straw - got it for Christmas together 6 weeks before we got married so I am being very careful to keep it for a long time. But that's probably not very alternate, just a bit green.

Oh, and a nativity scene carved from a half ring of a tree trunk which sits on the hall table.

There are one or two villages in Crete where they don't take Christmas decorations down they only switch them on during the Christmas period.

My in laws and two nephews were putting their outside lights up last weekend when we took them for their (mom and dad need to buy and hide stuff) trip to the cinema. they live on a very posh fairly new residential estate, and the whole street is lit up like a whores window, I hate it but have to bite my tounge, on the estate there is a family that were on holiday the first weekend they put their dec's up the poor guy gets back at 11.30pm and his wife and kids have him putting up the lights how sad. Its tacky and sad to put your decs up too early, the magic wares off too soon for kids and the whole lets eat up the planets resorces as quick as possibile for no apparent reason thing is very sad. celebrate christmas by all means but dont sell out, how are your grand kids going to explain their compleate lack of respect for the planet and its resorces at x-mas to their grand kids?
will they be here to try?
most towns and citys where we are have had lights on since november, how much money could the country have put towards renewable energy instead of useless lights, christ did not say thou must have lights and out do thy neighbour.
