The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

      Good point, well made
We have lights on our tree, but none of that coating the whole house in LED's! I've discovered a holly tree in full berry this morning, so we're gonna try making some stuff with that at the weekend I think.

Mental note to self....check I've got spare bulbs for a change!

We only have a tree lit up outside, but then we don't need the security lights on so I suppose it's a bit of a way to reducing the electricity wasted????

We have one set of cherry lights on a willow outside, and 2 sets of small lights covering the tree inside. That's it on extra lights (and some of the regular lights are on less as I like to light a lot of candles instead to go with the fire).

I am also planning on some holly usage this year - there are a load of trees in the middle of the lottie (woodland path between the 3 fields) and I'm going to take a couple of branches (only a couple, not going to be greedy). But there are loads of berries on them. I'll get them the weekend before Christmas when we go to harvest the crop for the turkey dinner, so it will be a nice outing for us all. Might even bring the ingredients for a daylight Wassail!!

Like me. The lights are on but there's no one at home?

Snap! I find this works just right for the kids, they know it won't be long once the decorations go up. Sometimes we even leave the tree till Christmas Eve if they can bear the wait, it makes it feel really special then.

Christmas Eve!! Always done this since the children were tiny. May not bother this year, though. Will be working and all the kids have their own families now and will be spending Xmas Day with them - OH DEAR I SOUND LIKE SCROOGE!!! Really didn't mean to - I have been invited out for Xmas Lunch at son's (1 daughter is live-in at a hotel and working, 1 daughter has new partner, other daughter and kids are going to outlaws as promised after spending many years having Xmas with me). I just can't see the point of decorating if there's going to be noone except me here to see them.

Yippee! I was wondering what excuse to come up with when they were older.

If they give you pleasure, put them up.

Yeah treat yourself to some 'easy' decorations - the fibre optic xmas trees are good fun and no effort. Some good fairy lights round the mantel piece, string up your xmas cards and a holly wreath on the front door - oh and a flashing santa & rudolph on the lawn! Little effort lots of fun!

Been out with the Natural History Society today (yeah, in the rain!) and found some lovely teasels. I picked a bunch to bring home and spray silver. They will go in a ball of foliage, red skimmia berries (and white spray chrysanths if I can find non-air freighted ones) for the hanging basket bracket in daughter's courtyard garden. They are having her in-laws over for the weekend next weekend and having a 'Christmas Dinner' on the Sunday so I'm collecting ivy from the hedgerows and giving my bay and variegated holly a haircut. I like this kind of decoration more than lights, tinsel and glitter. Old fashioned gal!

I have to admit, because I was bored last saturday, got the tree and decs down from the loft, but got OH to decorate the tree last wednesday when it was his day off. We are SO early this year - but the tree looks fab! and give me a boost when I see it.......its just all t'other things I still have to do............LOL Bernie

We only have a crib, would have "green" decorations if we were clever like Flum. Otherwise we are with Yoanbob we are not hypocrites and really want to help cut global warming. Daughter was delighted to get a goat in her name
for Africa last year, and MIL has asked for a tree this year.
It's not the growing old I mind but the growing stupid with it!
