What's your problem?

I've just been reading one of the other threads on here (who inspired you to begin gardening?) And it started me thinking about both my grandfathers who, in their own very different ways, were very good and very inspirational gardeners. But I also remembered that both seemed to have terrible problems when it came to just one, simple plant. No matter what they did they simply couldn't grow it. With one of them the problem was sage and with the other lettuces. I personally always struggle with carrots and my sister-in-law can't grow runner beans to save her life. Yet we all manage everything else perfectly well, even 'difficult' stuff

Does anyone else seem to have a mental block when it comes to just one thing - or is it just that my family are a little weird?

WON'T grow sprouts...they're 'orrible.
CAN'T grow radish..or at least, the leaves grow great but the radish bit doesn't!

I'm with Flum on this one, Swede are one of my favourite veg to eat but one of the hardest to grow well.
My harvest is better this year than most, but still pretty crap by normal standards. This is one veg where F1's seem to out perform old varieties especially in mildew and clubroot resistance. If I could only get the soil conditions right, and more importantly the sowing times right for my area I think I will eventually crack it! I'm getting there..........but slowly!

Indoor plants - African Violets. Love them but they won't grow for me despite following all the "expert" advice I can find. Outdoors it varies from season to season (I think it depends on the weather conditions). Last year's failures were notably courgettes, squashes and tomatoes, though I have grown them successfully before. Carrots I've never been much good at.

On limited experience, caulifowers. Mine looked promising for all of five minutes but rapidly went all brown and icky!
