  • Material Mix Question...

I know some pretty random things pop up in this area so I guess it won't be toooo odd....

You know how some materials don't let your body breathe very well and can make you fragrant by the end of the day and Acrylic is one of them...

...well I've seen a lovely jumper that's 50/50 cotton and acrylic. Any ideas if it'll be okay. I can't face buying another jumper I only wear once...

OK. I know Nuthing Mr. Fawlty? But I do know that I don't like Acrylic AT ALL.....

My Daddy had such a lovely saying, which is why I always took notice of what he said (because he didn't have many sayings).....
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

    Get my drift?

Unless you're happy ladling on the Anti-P in spades, I'd go with your instinct in this one.

In the interests of future ref, tho', you could always keep your eye out for that material mix in the charity shops - even if it's something vile, at least it'll be a cheap way of getting a definative answer...

Point taken wellie Though it was quite an expensive make (for me anyway, lol)

I'm one of the smelly people that don't wear deoderant as I hate the thought of what's put in them

Okay... maybe I'd better edit this to say I'm not actually smelly

Cotton is natural and breathable. It doesn't 'wick' though, so is not so good if you perspire heavily (it gets wet and doesn't dry out again quickly).
Acrylic is cheap, washable, easy care. This link says it does wick:
Manufactured Fibers - Polyester, Acrylic, Acetate, Nylon

The answer may be to wear a soft, comfy underlayer (tee shirt) with your acrylic/cotton jumper on the top. I wouldn't go for a 100% acrylic jumper, but the cotton mix might be nicer?

I prefer natural fibres but cotton as a sweater can be a pain to care for as it requires special treatment when washing - you can't just wash and tumble dry most of them. The acrylic would probably make it more easy-care (can be spun dry rather than drip) and also helps trap more warm air so as to increase the warmth. As suggested by Two Sheds, wear it over a cotton t-shirt.

Um, noooo... I literally shower and go. I guess I'm lucky and don't perspire much (unless I wear 100% acrylic, lol) Look at me... I'm probably grossing people out!

I guess I could try a cotton under top, I hadn't thought about that

Grossing people out ?! I'm on a big coarse of penicillin at the moment (Don't ask ! No , not a hundred million units) It's excreted from every pore and orifice in the body. Stinking or what ????

The crystal things work great, last forever as well - bought mine from the world wildlife fund web site about 2 years ago and it's still going great and must be working as, believe me, my friends would have mentioned it!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

they work really well against smell (they're a deodorant) but not against sweat itself (they're NOT an anti-perspirant)

I love them, I got a travel size one and its still going strong after 2 years

I'm wearing a cotton acrylic mix jumper at the moment (M&S Outlet shop - absolute bargain)

It's not a particularly tight jumper, and I haven't found any "smell" problems with it. I just have a squirt of deo in a morning (whatever I'm wearing) and find that I'm fine. It has washed really well too (on a wool wash at 40 degrees), for the price it was, it was a nice find

I think that maybe the mix in it allows some breathability?
