I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
When i was 15 my nan bought me and my sisters each a green velvet dress, the old fashioned type with lace collar and my mum forced us all to wear them on christmas day! OMG!!! that was the one and only time it ever got worn, Nan thought we all looked lovely, I would have died if my freinds had seen me in anything other than jeans and dockers.

You could always have had it reworked into a jacket!
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

About 17 years ago my father bought me a towelling dressing gown I hated it

For the past few years we've done the secret Santa thing with both families. Lady Wayne's family - we have a budget, we each write our name on a piece of paper with a list of the things we would like. It's then down to tthe recipient of your name/list to buy whatever they want/can from your list.
My family do the same, except for the list of things you want. Last year, my brother had to buy for me. I ended up with an Evel Kneivel stunt set, and a towel with "@rse" written on one end, and "face" on t'other.
A huge food processor - think I must have been hormonal or something, but it was our first child's first Xmas, and I was working full time, and still doing night feeds myself and was utterly exhausted and feeling used.
All I could see in that gift was years of mass catering and washing up!!!!!
It was nearly as bad as the gift of a full body wrap to aid weight loss I got 3 months later for my birthday.
Say no more! ( I know the poor sole - yes...OH - meant well, and it was my fault for not training him up properly!!)
A wheelbarrow and spade would have gone down so much better- obvious really!!

My Oh puts his foot in it most years...even when I give him a list, he likes to be 'spontaneous'
One year he bought me a "facial hair removal kit" - how tactless??!! ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY I'VE GOT A TASH??!!
Last year, he bought me a blender. We've got 2 blenders already, and I don't use either of them - he does!
I just expect the worst now, and buy stuff meself when I fancy it.
I'm not that difficult to buy for really - I love chocolate, reading and gardening, plenty of scope there!
Oh, and his Dad insists on buying me Ferrero Rocher every year, and I loathe & despise them... Must run in the family eh?!
we get marmalade and jam in a mushroom tub wrapped in a cheap tea towel every year. we never eat the stuff, we make our own.
I'll stop sending it to you then
The worsed Christmas was last year when The Moose (our 16 year old dog) had to be put down but folks know I'm a boring git and always get me gardening vouchers ( or like 2 years ago when Mrs G bought me 3 bags of compost )

I have had a good few years when I have had either bath sets (of the cheap and nasty variety) or candle sets (I like candles, but have too many holders as it is, and prefer nightlight ones anyway) coming out of my ears.
But my worst pressies really are the "cute" little outfits thta my parent's have bought for the toddler last year and again this year. Not only are they truly over the top ick, but this year's was sent to me with strict instructions that she wear it on Xmas Day - despite the fact that I had already bought her Christmas outfit when I was away for work a couple of months ago...."describe it.....oh that sounds like it could be worn anytime - PUT HER IN THE ONE YOUR DAD GOT HER". And it's just sooo not the toddler's style. I wanted to cry when I opened the package today......
Oh dear Winged one!
She is your child and although they mean well really do need to understand that it is now YOUR turn to enjoy planning YOUR child's Xmas.
Perhaps you can dress her in the hideous outfit for a short time on the day and then the one you have chosen for the rest of the time??
I'd have a gentle chat with them asap so they have a chance to come to terms with their misplaced generosity??
Could you go and exchange it with your mum and have a girlie lunch out to make the day less traumatic???
I was too submissive to my elders in my early days as a mum.....and regret it to this day.
